I found myself cornered at the stairway by my sister's boyfriend.
He was whistling nonchalantly, leaning in closer, almost about to kiss me.
Before his hand could touch my waist, I swiftly pushed him away with a slap.
"Stop acting like a creep in front of me."
He took a step back, his smile unwavering, just as he was about to say something when Lin Xingxing came running down the stairs, looking at us curiously.
"Qin Hao, what are you two doing?"
"Lin Xingxing, keep your boyfriend in check."
I reminded her with irritation. Lin Xingxing was love-struck, spoiled by her family, and believed there were no bad people in the world.
From the moment I laid eyes on this boyfriend she brought home, I felt uneasy, especially with the way he looked at me.
During our first meal together, he had rubbed his foot against mine under the table.
And now he was deliberately blocking me at the stairway, trying to make a move—he clearly had ulterior motives.
Yet Lin Xingxing seemed completely oblivious.
The jerk explained, "Oh, Xingxing, you and your sister look so much alike that I almost mistook you for her."
"Huh? You didn't do anything to my sister, did you?" Lin Xingxing rushed over and wrapped her arms around Qin Hao's. "You better pay more attention to me and not mix us up again."
Love-struck, hopeless.
I was too lazy to watch them flaunt their affection, so I went straight back to my room.
I sent a message to Lin Xingxing, asking her to bring her boyfriend over to the apartment less often.
She agreed verbally but then dragged her boyfriend out on a date.
While I was showering, the power suddenly went out, plunging the bathroom into darkness.
I fumbled with the showerhead, trying to rinse the foam off my face, and prepared to step out to check the circuit breaker.
But what was that?
I unexpectedly touched a pair of hands and immediately recoiled, but the shadowy figure grabbed me and pulled me into the bathroom.
"Help—"
My cries for help were muffled as I was pinned against the wall, unable to make a sound.
He seemed to be enjoying himself.
I kicked him, but he just laughed and leaned closer.
A sudden pain shot through my neck; this pervert was biting me.
In my struggle, I caught a whiff of a familiar scent.
Is it him? It’s definitely him!
I bit down hard on his hand, and when he winced in pain, I slapped him.
“Qin Hao, you scoundrel.”
He seemed surprised that I recognized him so quickly. He froze for a moment before hastily letting go of me and fleeing.
Qin Hao had gone too far this time; first, it was an ambush in the bathroom, and next time, who knows what else he might do?
I called Lin Xingxing directly, but she didn’t believe a word I said.
It was pointless trying to reason with my love-struck sister, so I went straight to the police.
To prevent any incidents involving stalkers, the apartment was always under surveillance.
However, that day, shortly after Lin Xingxing and Qin Hao left, the cameras suddenly malfunctioned.
The intruder wasn’t captured on tape; instead, Qin Hao produced evidence himself. The surveillance outside his house could prove that he was unwell that day and had stayed home after Lin Xingxing accompanied him back.
The scent of perfume I detected in the dark wasn’t enough to serve as evidence.
Lin Xingxing insisted that I apologize to Qin Hao.
Of course, that's impossible. I'm sure that aside from Qin Hao, there couldn't possibly be another creep who likes to wear the same perfume.
So she completely fell out with me.
Qin Hao stood behind my sister, tilting his head with a smile.
He was up to something again...
I was filming a show with Lin Xingxing, and it was supposed to be a private schedule.
But as soon as we stepped outside, the crowd surged, and the fans' screams grew louder and louder.
Logically, there shouldn't have been this many fans unless someone had deliberately leaked information.
The agent's face darkened as he immediately made a call to investigate.
After a commotion, he finally called in an extra team of security to help us push our way through the throng of fans.
I couldn't tell if I was being overly sensitive, but I caught a whiff of that familiar scent again. At one point, someone had intentionally brushed against me and even pinched me.
Once we got into the car, I glanced back at the crowd and noticed a tall man wearing a cap turning away.
Exhausted when I got home, I was surprised when the property management knocked on my door.
"Miss Lin, sorry to disturb you, but there's something very important. The garbage collector said someone has been rummaging through your discarded trash."
"What?"
"Cleaner saw a young man rummaging through the trash. When he approached, the guy got scared and ran away. We couldn't catch him, so I wanted to remind you, just in case someone..."
Suddenly, I recalled the man from earlier today. Was he alone? That seemed even more intriguing.
Lin Xingxing was becoming increasingly odd. While changing into her performance outfit, I noticed scars on her body.
They looked like burn marks. I asked her what had happened, but she merely shot me a glance and refused to speak.
Well, good intentions are often met with ingratitude.
In recent days, her injuries had multiplied, all in rather concealed places.
She even had a navel piercing.
I had warned her to be careful during performances, as someone might capture it on camera, but she didn't listen at all.
I never expected things would escalate this much. We both had cultivated an image of pure and adorable good girls, and now this incident shattered that image, inviting speculation from others.
To make matters worse, Lin Xingxing was completely careless when she was out with Qin Hao. Photos of the two of them locked in passionate kisses were leaked by someone with ill intentions.
The agent's phone was bombarded with calls, yet the parties involved vanished without a trace.
As a result, I was forced to stay cooped up at home, canceling all my work.
Lin Xingxing was found a month later, sporting a face that was unrecognizable even to her mother, indifferent to everyone's worries and concerns.
After the shock, my mom angrily slapped her.
"Mom, what are you doing? I just finished my makeup, don't mess it up."
Lin Xingxing remained unapologetic, completely unaware that her actions could ruin both of our futures.
The company held an emergency meeting, and after two days of discussion, the plan was for me to undergo plastic surgery as well.
The reasoning was that Lin Xingxing had already altered her appearance and couldn't go back, while I could be made to look exactly like her.
After that, we went silent for a year, claiming we were studying abroad. We planned to re-emerge with our new faces once the audience's memories of our original appearances had faded a bit.
As for why the change was so drastic, we could easily say it was due to wisdom teeth removal or that I had matured over the years.
Regardless of whether I agreed or not, they insisted on dragging me into this, using both soft and hard tactics.
Well, Lin Yueyue had been using this face for long enough; it was about time for a change.
On the day of the surgery, Lin Xingxing, who had been playing dead all this time, suddenly appeared. She grabbed Qin Hao's hand and looked at me with a sinister expression, as if she were afraid I would steal her man.
