Then, she picked up a talisman and gestured as she spoke, "The runes on this talisman are specifically designed to subdue the restless spirits and wild ghosts in ancient tombs. If we encounter any supernatural events, this talisman will come in handy. Also, the traps in ancient tombs can be incredibly varied. Take the 'Thousand-Pound Barrier' for example; once triggered, it will come crashing down with a loud bang, turning anyone beneath it into a pulp. And there's the 'Dark Arrow Formation,' where countless arrows shoot out from all directions—there's no place to hide."
Zhang Qi listened, wide-eyed and increasingly terrified, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He stammered, "This... this is too dangerous. Can we really do this?"
A Ling patted his shoulder and reassured him, "Don't be afraid. As long as I'm here and we proceed with caution, we still have a chance. Besides, to save your brother, we have no choice but to face it head-on."
Looking into A Ling's confident eyes, Zhang Qi took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and silently encouraged himself. No matter what lay ahead, he was determined to wake the monkey up; even if it meant stepping into a den of dragons and tigers, he would not back down.
At that moment, Lao Hu suddenly slapped his thigh and said, "Wait a minute, miss! Since the ancient tomb is so dangerous, shouldn't we prepare some more reliable tools? I used to hunt in the mountains and know a Blacksmith who is quite skilled. He might be able to forge us some effective weapons specifically for dealing with those traps and monsters."
A Ling's eyes lit up at this suggestion. "That's a great idea! Big Brother, you should hurry and make that trip."
Without hesitation, Lao Hu turned and left, reminding Zhang Qi before he exited, "Brother, just hold steady here. I'll be back soon."
Lao Hu hurried to the Blacksmith's shop—a dimly lit and cramped space where the fire blazed brightly. The Blacksmith was bare-chested with bulging muscles, swinging a large hammer against a glowing piece of iron on the anvil.
After explaining his purpose for visiting, the Blacksmith paused his work and thought for a moment before saying, "To deal with the things in an ancient tomb, we need weapons made of refined iron. I have some excellent Meteoric Iron here that would be perfect for this purpose. However, Meteoric Iron is difficult to work with; it will cost extra."
Lao Hu gritted his teeth and replied, "Fine. Money isn't an issue; as long as I can save my brother, I'll pay whatever it takes."
The Blacksmith nodded and began working diligently. After some careful crafting, he produced an incredibly sharp long sword and several Short Daggers.
The blade of the long sword gleamed coldly as if it could slice through iron like mud. The Short Daggers were small and exquisite, easy to carry for close combat.
Lao Hu paid with satisfaction and hurried back to the hospital with the weapons.
Upon returning to the small room, Lao Hu handed the weapons to Zhang Qi and A Ling, saying, "With these, we can feel a bit more secure."
A Ling took the dagger, drew it from its sheath, and tested its sharpness lightly. "Good blade! With this weapon, our chances in the ancient tomb have increased," she praised.
Zhang Qi also gripped the long knife tightly, feeling a surge of power within him.
However, A Ling looked at the weapons and frowned. "Having just these isn't enough. We need to prepare some special powder that can interfere with certain evil mechanisms in the tomb. I know there's an Old Chinese Medicine Doctor nearby who has some knowledge of these strange things. He might be able to help us."
So, the three hurried off to find the Old Chinese Medicine Doctor. His clinic was located at the corner of the town, filled with a rich aroma of herbs. The Old Chinese Medicine Doctor was a white-haired elder with sharp eyes.
After A Ling explained their purpose, the Old Chinese Medicine Doctor rummaged through his cluttered cabinets for quite some time before producing a small porcelain vial. "This is my secret concoction, Lingxu Powder. When scattered, it can temporarily confuse those evil spirits, but there isn't much of it, so use it sparingly."
Zhang Qi gratefully accepted the vial and said, "Thank you, sir! You've really helped us out."
The Old Chinese Medicine Doctor waved his hand dismissively. "Young man, that ancient tomb is no place for recklessness. You must be cautious and not act impulsively."
With weapons and Lingxu Powder in hand, Zhang Qi and his companions felt better prepared. Yet, Zhang Qi still felt uneasy as he looked at A Ling and asked, "A Ling, what exactly are we supposed to find in the tomb to save the monkey?"
A Ling pondered for a moment before replying, "Based on what I know from legends and my perception of that evil force, what we need to find is a Spirit Source Pearl. This pearl is the core of that evil power. Once we find it and use specific sorcery and formations, we can seal it again and rescue your brother."
Zhang Qi scratched his head in confusion and asked, "What does this Spirit Source Pearl look like? We don't want to miss it when we see it."
A Ling patiently explained, "This Spirit Source Pearl is said to be the size of a fist, emitting a bluish glow. The surface of the pearl has some peculiar patterns, resembling flowing waves. Moreover, it is surely protected by powerful dark forces, so we need to be fully alert."
Lao Hu, listening from the side, grinned and said, "No matter what it looks like, as long as it's in that ancient tomb, we'll find it. But speaking of which, we’re bound to encounter quite a bit of trouble along the way; we need to come up with a strategy."
A Ling nodded and replied, "You're right, big brother. We need to plan ahead. If we encounter danger, everyone should remain calm and follow my lead. I will use my witchcraft to hold off the enemies while Zhang Qi and you focus on finding an escape route and protecting each other."
Zhang Qi and Lao Hu responded in unison, "Alright, let's do it."
Though they spoke confidently, Zhang Qi's heart was filled with worry. He had no idea what horrors and dangers awaited them in the ancient tomb, nor did he know if they could truly find the Spirit Source Pearl and awaken the monkey as A Ling claimed.
But at this point, there was no turning back; he could only move forward with determination.
