Half a month later, the exam finally came to an end.
Li Xue prepared to return to her apartment to pack her things before heading home. Just as she stepped out of the company gate, a message from Li Jin arrived.
Li Jin: "Sis, it seems Li Ling has found a job recently. She leaves early and comes back late every day."
Li Xue raised an eyebrow as she glanced at her phone screen. Li Ling found a job? She didn't really care. It was better that Li Ling wasn't at home.
Li Xue replied, "I got it. Focus on your studies until I get back."
Li Jin: "Understood, Sis."
Li Jin had initially wanted to share his suspicions about Li Ling with Li Xue but decided against it after some thought, not wanting to worry his sister.
When Li Xue arrived at the entrance of her apartment, she spotted Gu Jingchen's car parked there from a distance. She deliberately avoided looking at it, walking past the vehicle without a glance.
Inside the car, Gu Jingchen watched her ignore him, his expression darkening. He instructed his assistant, "Follow her."
The assistant quickly complied.
Gu Jingchen leaned back in his seat, resting his chin on one hand as he observed the woman ahead of him, irritation brewing in his eyes. How dare she disregard him! It was infuriating!
His car quietly trailed behind Li Xue, his gaze fixed on her as his anger intensified. How could she just leave him behind and walk away? He would not let her off easily!

Li Xue walked leisurely, intentionally wearing a pair of high heels that clicked rhythmically against the pavement. She knew Gu Jingchen's car was right behind her and pretended not to notice as she continued forward.
Her steps were slow and appeared somewhat laborious.
Gu Jingchen watched her with a furrowed brow. Was she uncomfortable in those high heels? His heart inexplicably tightened as he observed her.
He looked at her and said, "Stop the car."
The driver immediately halted.
Gu Jingchen got out and strode towards her.
Li Xue sensed someone approaching from behind and a subtle smile crept onto her lips.
The fish had taken the bait.
She continued walking forward, pretending not to notice the presence behind her.
Gu Jingchen reached her side and extended his hand, grabbing her arm.
Li Xue turned around, feigning surprise as her eyes widened, "Manager Gu? What are you doing here?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "That's a question I should be asking you."
Li Xue looked puzzled, "What do you mean?"
Gu Jingchen fixed his gaze on her, "Why did you leave?"
Li Xue blinked, "Huh?"
Gu Jingchen continued, "That night, why did you walk away?"
Li Xue met his gaze, "Oh, you mean that night."
Gu Jingchen pressed on, "Why didn't you wake me up?"
Li Xue responded, "You looked so peaceful while sleeping; I didn't want to disturb you."
Gu Jingchen scrutinized her, "Really?"
Li Xue nodded, "Of course."
Gu Jingchen asked, "Then why didn't you call me?"
Li Xue replied, "I didn't think it was necessary."
Gu Jingchen questioned further, "Why wasn't it necessary?"
Li Xue explained, "Manager Gu, we're adults; it was just a transaction. No need to complicate things."
Gu Jingchen challenged her statement, "Just a transaction?"
Li Xue affirmed, "Yes."
Gu Jingchen shook his head, "But I don't see it that way."
Li Xue frowned in confusion, "Then what do you think it is, Manager Gu?"
Gu Jingchen asked pointedly, "Why do you think I would make that deal with you?"
Li Xue blinked again, "Isn't it because you wanted to sleep with me?"
Gu Jingchen was momentarily speechless.
He studied the woman before him. Her skin was fair, her cheeks flushed, and her lips full and tempting.
His throat tightened.
He looked at her and said, "I want to sleep with you because I like you."
Li Xue was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter. "Manager Gu, you really know how to joke."
Gu Jingchen looked at her. "I'm not joking."
Li Xue gazed at him. "Do you like me?"
Gu Jingchen nodded. "Yes."
Li Xue continued to look at him. "What do you like about me?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "I like you as a person."
Li Xue frowned slightly. "Manager Gu, stop joking around."
Gu Jingchen maintained his gaze on her. "I'm not joking."
Li Xue pressed on, "Then why do you like me?"
Gu Jingchen answered simply, "No reason."
Li Xue shook her head. "Manager Gu, that reason doesn't hold up."
Gu Jingchen insisted, "I'm serious."
Li Xue challenged him, "Then do you dare to pursue me?"
Gu Jingchen replied confidently, "Of course."
Li Xue smiled. "Alright, I'll wait for you."
Gu Jingchen looked at her earnestly. "I will definitely pursue you again."
Li Xue chuckled softly. "I'll be watching."
Gu Jingchen leaned closer. "Now, can you tell me your answer?"
Li Xue blinked innocently. "What answer?"
Gu Jingchen clarified, "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Li Xue considered it for a moment. "I want to think about it."
Gu Jingchen nodded understandingly. "Okay, I'll give you time."
Li Xue stood up. "Then I'll take my leave now."
Gu Jingchen quickly said, "I'll see you off."
Li Xue waved her hand dismissively. "No need, I can go back by myself."
Gu Jingchen insisted, "I don't want you to go back alone."
Li Xue hesitated. "But..."
Gu Jingchen interrupted gently, "No buts."
Li Xue relented. "Alright then."
He took her hand and led her to the car, opening the door and shielding her head as she got in.
After he settled into the car and closed the door, the atmosphere inside became somewhat tense.
Li Xue stared out the window, her emotions swirling within her.
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "What are you thinking about?"
Li Xue gazed out the window, "Nothing."
Gu Jingchen continued to watch her, "Are you angry?"
Li Xue kept her eyes on the window, "I'm not angry."
Gu Jingchen pressed on, "Then why do you look unhappy?"
Li Xue replied without turning, "I'm not unhappy."
Gu Jingchen asked again, "Then why won't you look at me?"
Li Xue answered, "I don't want to look at you."
Gu Jingchen inquired, "Why not?"
Li Xue insisted, "There's no reason."
Gu Jingchen countered, "You do have a reason."
Li Xue maintained her stance, "I don't."
Gu Jingchen repeated, "You do."
Finally unable to hold back any longer, Li Xue turned to him and said, "Gu Jingchen, are you annoying?"
Gu Jingchen smiled, "You finally decided to look at me."
Li Xue was silent.
Gu Jingchen continued, "Do you know that this is very dangerous?"
Li Xue looked puzzled, "Dangerous?"
He nodded, "Yes."
Li Xue asked, "Why is it dangerous?"
Gu Jingchen replied seriously, "Because I might lose control and kiss you."
Li Xue was taken aback.
Gu Jingchen looked at her intently, "Don't you believe me?"
Li Xue met his gaze, "I believe you."
Gu Jingchen pressed further, "Then why don't you move away?"
Li Xue challenged him with her eyes, "Why should I move away?"
Gu Jingchen asked again, "Aren't you afraid I might kiss you?"
Li Xue responded boldly, "Do you want to kiss me?"
Gu Jingchen replied honestly, "I don't want to."
Li Xue was left speechless.
Gu Jingchen added with a teasing tone, "But if you're willing to let me kiss you, I might consider it."
Li Xue remained silent.
Gu Jingchen leaned closer and asked softly, "Are you willing?"
Li Xue looked at him, "I..."
Gu Jingchen leaned closer, "Hmm?"
Li Xue gazed at him, "I..."
Gu Jingchen continued to look at her, "Hmm?"
Li Xue finally said, "I'm willing."
Gu Jingchen stared at her, "Really?"
Li Xue nodded, "Mm."
Gu Jingchen replied, "I don't believe you."
Li Xue asked, "Why don't you believe me?"
Gu Jingchen said, "You need to prove it to me."
Li Xue inquired, "How do I prove it?"
Gu Jingchen responded, "You know how."
Li Xue shook her head, "I don't know."
Gu Jingchen raised an eyebrow, "You don't know?"
Li Xue nodded again, "Mm."
Gu Jingchen said, "Then let me tell you."
He leaned in and kissed her lips.
Li Xue closed her eyes.
As the kiss ended, Gu Jingchen released her and looked at her, "Do you understand now?"
Li Xue opened her eyes and met his gaze, "I understand."
Gu Jingchen said, "From now on, you have to let me kiss you every day."
Li Xue looked at him defiantly, "Why should I?"
Gu Jingchen replied confidently, "Because I am your boyfriend now."
Li Xue was left speechless.
