In the car, Li Xue lay in Gu Jingchen's arms, listening to the strong and steady beat of his heart, a smile creeping onto her lips. Gu Jingchen held her tightly, as if he wanted to merge her into his very being. The sound of her heartbeat echoed in his chest, intertwining with his own, creating a soothing rhythm that filled the air.
Gu Jingchen looked down at the girl in his embrace. "Xiao Xue, I love you."
Li Xue lifted her head to meet his gaze. "What do you love about me?"
He replied earnestly, "I love you as a person."
She studied him closely. "Why?"
"There's no reason," he said simply.
Li Xue pouted slightly. "I don't believe that."
"Whether you believe it or not, I love you," he insisted.
She tilted her head, curiosity piqued. "So when are you coming to my house?"
Gu Jingchen met her gaze. "Do you want me to come?"
"Don't you want to?" she asked.
"I do want to," he confirmed.
"Then go," she urged.
"Alright, I'll go tomorrow," he promised.
Li Xue's expression turned serious. "What will you tell my parents?"
"I'll tell them I want to marry you," he said confidently.
She raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure they'll agree?"
"They will agree," he assured her.
"How can you be so certain?" she pressed.
"Because I believe they want their daughter to be happy," he replied sincerely.
Li Xue searched his eyes for truth. "Is that really how you feel?"
He nodded firmly. "Yes."
"That's good to hear," she said softly.
Gu Jingchen gazed at her intently. "Xiao Xue, I love you."
"I love you too," she whispered back.
He lowered his head and kissed her lips gently. Li Xue closed her eyes, responding to his kiss with warmth and affection.
Inside the car, the atmosphere was enchanting.
Gu Jingchen dropped Li Xue off at her home. As she got out, she looked at him and said, "You should head back now."
Gu Jingchen gazed at her and asked, "Aren't you going to invite me up for a while?"
Li Xue replied, "We aren't married yet."
He continued to look at her, "So when are we getting married?"
Li Xue met his gaze, "Maybe after you resolve your issues with the Jing Family."
Gu Jingchen responded, "That won't take more than half a month."
Li Xue looked at him and said, "Then make it quick."
He studied her expression and remarked, "Actually, you hope the Chen Family can stay safe too, right?"
Li Xue countered, "Don't you hope so?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "I do hope so. But if I help the Chen Family, what benefit do I get from it?"
She raised an eyebrow and asked, "What kind of benefit are you looking for?"
With a teasing smile, he said, "How about you pledge yourself to me?"
Li Xue shot him a glare. "Dream on."
He chuckled softly. "I know the Chen Family won't collapse in just half a month."
Li Xue nodded. "As long as you understand."
Gu Jingchen then said, "But I didn't expect Jing Shen to be so indifferent towards Chen Li."
Li Xue replied, "He's been hurt deeply by her."
Gu Jingchen inquired further, "What about Jing Lan?"
Li Xue asked back, "What about her?"
He responded, "She's still stubbornly holding on."
Li Xue sighed.
Gu Jingchen noticed and asked, "Why the sigh?"
She looked at him and said, "I just think Jing Lan is being foolish."
He agreed, "She really is quite foolish."
Li Xue questioned, "How could she be so foolish?"
Gu Jingchen explained, "Because she's fallen for someone she shouldn't have."
Li Xue's eyes widened as she asked, "You mean Jing Shen?"
Gu Jingchen nodded, "Hmm."
Li Xue sighed, "What a twist of fate."
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "Do you think so too?"
Li Xue met his gaze, "Isn't it?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "Maybe."
Li Xue continued, "What about the Jing Family?"
Gu Jingchen asked, "Who do you mean?"
Li Xue clarified, "Besides Jing Shen and Jing Lan, who else?"
Gu Jingchen said, "They are all quite anxious."
Li Xue remarked, "They should be anxious."
Gu Jingchen suggested, "Do you want to see their reaction?"
Li Xue inquired, "How would we do that?"
Gu Jingchen proposed, "We could leak a bit of information to them."
Li Xue shrugged, "It's up to you."
Gu Jingchen pressed, "Aren't you interested?"
Li Xue shook her head, "Not really."
Gu Jingchen asked, "Then what are you interested in?"
Li Xue replied, "I'm interested in you."
Gu Jingchen smiled and said, "Then I'll make sure you stay interested."
With that, he kissed her lips.
Li Xue closed her eyes and responded to his kiss.
As the kiss ended, Li Xue leaned against him, breathing heavily.
Gu Jingchen stroked her hair gently. "Xiaoxue, can I stay with you tonight?"
Li Xue looked up at him. "No."
Gu Jingchen asked, "Why not?"
Li Xue explained, "I haven't told my parents yet."
Gu Jingchen questioned her further. "If you tell them, will they agree to us being together?"
Li Xue replied thoughtfully, "They should."
Gu Jingchen smiled. "That's good then."
Li Xue urged him gently, "You should hurry back."
Gu Jingchen looked at her and said, "I can't bear to leave you."
Li Xue replied, "What makes you think I’m worth missing?"
Gu Jingchen continued, "I wish I could be with you every day."
Li Xue urged, "Then hurry up and resolve the issues with the Jing Family."
Gu Jingchen assured her, "I will."
Li Xue insisted, "Then you should go back quickly."
Gu Jingchen gazed at her again, "I can't bear to leave you."
Li Xue questioned, "What is there to miss?"
Gu Jingchen replied earnestly, "I just can't bear to part with you."
Li Xue was left speechless.
Gu Jingchen added, "Give me a kiss, and I'll leave."
Li Xue sighed in resignation, stood on her tiptoes, and planted a kiss on his cheek.
Gu Jingchen looked at her and said, "That's not enough."
Li Xue glared at him, "Don't push your luck."
Gu Jingchen insisted, "I want your kiss."
Li Xue was at a loss for words.
Gu Jingchen remarked, "If you won't give it willingly, that's fine."
Reluctantly, Li Xue leaned in and kissed him on the lips.
Gu Jingchen smiled and said, "Now that’s more like it."
Li Xue asked, "Can you leave now?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "See you tomorrow."
Li Xue waved goodbye and turned to leave.
Only after watching her enter the apartment building did Gu Jingchen get into his car and drive away.
