Li Jin looked at her and said, "Sister, I miss you."
Li Xue replied, "You miss me?"
He nodded, "Yeah."
She continued to gaze at him, "Do you miss me, or do you miss my money?"
Li Jin looked back at her, "Sister, of course I miss you."
"Is that so?" she asked.
He nodded again, "Yeah."
"Then give me your phone," she said.
Li Jin eyed her warily, "Why?"
She responded, "Do you want to borrow some money?"
After hesitating for a few seconds, he pulled out his phone and handed it to her.
Li Xue took his phone, unlocked it with her fingerprint, then opened WeChat and entered her payment password.
Li Jin watched her closely, "Sister, how much did you transfer?"
"Two thousand," she replied.
He looked surprised, "Sister, you're so rich and only gave me two thousand?"
She shot back, "You don't want it? Then give it back to me."
Li Jin quickly snatched the phone back, "No, I want it. Of course I want it."
"Can you let me have some peace now?" she asked.
"What are you going to do?" he inquired.
"I’m going back to my room to rest," she said.
"Aren't you going to have dinner?" he asked.
"I already ate outside," she replied.
"Oh," he said.
She glanced at him before turning and heading back to her room.
Once inside her room, she took a shower, changed into her pajamas, and sat on the bed playing with her phone. She called Gu Jingchen. After a few rings, the call connected.
"Hey."
Li Xue: "What are you doing?"
Gu Jingchen: "Thinking about you."
Li Xue: "Don't give me that."
Gu Jingchen: "I really am thinking about you."
Li Xue: "What do you want to think about me for?"
Gu Jingchen: "I miss you so much I can't sleep."
Li Xue: "Then don't sleep."
Gu Jingchen: "You have a cruel heart."
Li Xue: "I've been kind enough to you."
Gu Jingchen: "Even though you're so mean to me, I still like you."
Li Xue: "Stop saying that."
Gu Jingchen: "Why?"
Li Xue: "It's too cheesy."
Gu Jingchen: "I knew you'd say that."
Li Xue: "If you say it again, I'm hanging up."
Gu Jingchen: "Alright, I won't say anything more."
Li Xue: "I called to tell you not to come to my house tomorrow."
Gu Jingchen: "Why not?"
Li Xue: "My parents need some time to cool off."
Gu Jingchen: "When can I see them then?"
Li Xue: "Maybe in a couple of days."
Gu Jingchen: "Okay."
Li Xue: "Don't be upset."
Gu Jingchen: "I'm not upset."
Li Xue: "That's good."
Gu Jingchen: "Just don't make me wait too long."
"Mm."
"Do you miss me?" Gu Jingchen asked.
"What would I miss you for?" Li Xue replied.
"If you miss me, I'll come find you right away."
"Don't come."
"Why not?"
"I've already gone home. My parents are here; what would you come for?"
"I can visit them."
"Don't come."
"Why?"
"I haven't told my parents yet."
"Then hurry up and tell them."
"I will."
"I'm waiting for your news."
"Okay."
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Li Xue hung up the phone.
The next day, Li Xue was still busy at the office.
When she got home in the evening, she called Gu Jingchen.
The call connected quickly.
"Hello."
"What are you doing?" Li Xue asked.
"I'm thinking of you," Gu Jingchen replied.
"Weren't you just thinking about that yesterday?"
"I've become addicted to missing you."
"Don't start with that," Li Xue said.
"I really can't help but miss you," Gu Jingchen replied.
"Stop talking," she insisted.
"Why?" he asked.
"Because it's cheesy," she said.
"I knew you'd say that," he chuckled.
"If you say another word, I'm hanging up," she warned.
"Alright, I won't say anything more."
"I called to ask if you're free this weekend," Li Xue continued.
"I am," Gu Jingchen confirmed.
"Then I'll take you home to meet my parents."
"Really?" he asked, surprised.
"Yes."
"I'll make sure I'm ready."
"Good."
"I'm looking forward to your good news," he said eagerly.
"Mm-hmm."
"I love you," Gu Jingchen confessed.
"I love you too," Li Xue replied softly.
"You finally said it," he smiled.
"I'm going to sleep now, bye," she said quickly.
"Goodnight."
Li Xue hung up the phone.

On the weekend, Li Xue brought Gu Jingchen home.
Li Wenguang and Liu Liyun were surprised to see her bring a man back, especially Li Wenguang, whose expression darkened immediately.
Li Xue looked at them and said, "Mom, Dad, this is Gu Jingchen, my boyfriend."
Gu Jingchen greeted them, "Hello, Uncle and Aunt."
Li Wenguang asked, "Which company are you from?"
Gu Jingchen replied, "I am the chairman of Gu Group."
Both Li Wenguang and Liu Liyun were taken aback.
Gu Jingchen continued, "I came to visit you today. This is a small token of my appreciation."
As he spoke, he took out several gift boxes and handed them to them.
Liu Liyun looked at the gift boxes, somewhat flustered. "This... this is too extravagant."
Gu Jingchen assured her, "It's just a small gesture. I hope you can accept it."
Li Wenguang asked, "Are you serious?"

Gu Jingchen shook his head, "It does not bother me."
Li Wenguang scrutinized him further, "You really don't mind?"
Gu Jingchen assured him again, "I really don't mind."
Li Wenguang then asked, "Why do you like her?"
Gu Jingchen answered sincerely, "I like everything about her."
Li Wenguang questioned again, "Do you truly like her?"
Gu Jingchen nodded firmly, "I truly like her."
Li Wenguang pressed on for confirmation, "Are you absolutely certain you like her?"
Gu Jingchen replied with conviction, "I am absolutely certain I like her."
Li Wenguang looked at him and asked, "Can you make her happy?"
Gu Jingchen met his gaze and replied, "I can."
Li Wenguang pressed further, "How can you prove that you can?"
Gu Jingchen responded confidently, "I can prove it with my actions."
Li Wenguang nodded, "Alright, I'll wait to see your actions."
Gu Jingchen assured him, "I won't let you down."
Liu Liyun turned to Li Wenguang and said, "Wenguang, don't scare Gu Jingchen."
Li Wenguang defended himself, "I'm not scaring him!"
Liu Liyun insisted, "You clearly are."
Li Wenguang retorted, "Am I really?"
Liu Liyun affirmed, "Yes, you definitely are."
Li Wenguang sighed, "Fine, I won't say anything more."
Liu Liyun then looked at Gu Jingchen and urged, "Gu Jingchen, please sit down."
Gu Jingchen thanked her, saying, "Thank you, Auntie."
Liu Liyun replied warmly, "No need to be polite."
Gu Jingchen took a seat.
Liu Liyun inquired, "Gu Jingchen, who else is in your family?"
Gu Jingchen answered, "I have my grandparents and several cousins."
Liu Liyun asked about his parents.
Gu Jingchen replied somberly, "My parents passed away when I was very young."
Liu Liyun was taken aback. "I'm sorry; I didn't know..."
Gu Jingchen reassured her, "It's alright."
Liu Liyun continued, "So do you live with your grandparents now?"
Gu Jingchen clarified, "No, my grandparents live in the countryside. I bought a house in the city."
Liu Liyun asked further, "Do you usually live alone?"
Gu Jingchen confirmed, "Yes."
Liu Liyun probed again, "Are you used to living alone?"
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "I've gotten used to it."
Liu Liyun looked at him, "If you feel lonely, you can come to our house often."
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "I will come often."
Liu Liyun looked at him, "That's good."
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "Auntie, actually, I came here to discuss something with you."
Liu Liyun looked at him, "What is it?"
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "My grandfather's health is getting worse. His greatest wish is to see me get married and have children."
Liu Liyun looked at him, "I understand."
Gu Jingchen looked at her, "So, I want to get engaged to Xiaoxue."
