Early the next morning, when the doctor came in for rounds, Yao Nian felt as if she had just fallen asleep before being jolted awake. She had tossed and turned for a long time the night before, unable to sleep due to the events involving Shen Du's friend. 0

Now, she finally took a good look at her hospital room. It was not easy to secure such a room in a top-tier hospital—one with a sofa, air conditioning, and a private bathroom. It wasn’t just about having money; it required connections as well. 0

There was no sign of Shen Du on the sofa. The blanket borrowed from the nurses' station was neatly folded into a small square and placed carefully on the couch. 0

A nurse entered to check her temperature and gave her some instructions before hanging another bag of saline on the IV stand. 0

Just then, Shen Du stepped out of the elevator, carrying congee he had just bought. His phone vibrated twice in his pocket. He pulled it out to see that it was a call from Yao Zhandong. 0

He pressed the answer button. 0

“Sorry, Lawyer Shen. I missed your call last night because I had an engagement. Is there something urgent?” 0

Shen Du walked over to the window and replied succinctly, “Yao Nian is hospitalized with a mild gastric perforation.” 0

“Hospitalized?” Yao Zhandong's voice shot up an octave. “What happened?” 0

“You don’t need to worry too much,” Shen Du said as he recounted the situation from last night as best as he could. The doctor mentioned that for her condition, surgery wasn’t necessary for now, but she would need to stay in the hospital for a few more days. 0

“This child is simply too worrisome. I tell her every day to eat on time, but she never listens to me. And now look where we are! I can’t leave here anytime soon, and her mother—well, don’t even get me started on that.” 0

Listening to his complaints and incessant chatter, Shen Du suddenly understood what the doctor meant: the stomach is an emotional organ, and emotional fluctuations can indeed affect it. 0

“Lawyer Shen? Hello? Are you there?” Yao Zhandong’s voice broke through his thoughts. 0

“Hmm?” 0

“Really, I can’t thank you enough this time. But I need to trouble you again—could you help find two nurses? Money isn’t an issue; we just need someone to take care of Yao Nian until she’s discharged.” 0

Shen Du let out a barely noticeable sigh. “No need to be polite; finding nurses is a small matter.” 0

After hanging up, he didn’t immediately return to the hospital room but instead stared thoughtfully at the bowl of congee in his hands. 0

Yao Zhandong had complained for quite some time but hadn’t asked how Shen Du knew about Yao Nian’s hospitalization. 0

Shen Du considered himself not one to meddle in others’ affairs, yet he couldn’t understand why he felt so concerned for a client’s daughter. Perhaps it was sympathy for her experiences or perhaps it was his upbringing that wouldn’t allow him to turn a blind eye. Regardless, as an elder, he was willing to look after her a bit more. 0

Meanwhile, Yao Nian was feeling anxious; although the restroom was just within reach, she found herself unable to move at all. 0

Because her left hand was attached to an IV drip, she had to bring the hanging bottle along with her as she entered. However, the IV was hung quite high, and despite reaching for it several times to prevent the blood from flowing back, she was unable to grasp it. 0

As Yao Nian stood by the bedside, trying to take down the IV bottle, she couldn't help but mentally criticize this inhumane design. Her current posture looked rather awkward. Just as she was about to touch the saline bottle, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open. 0

A chill ran down her spine. 0

She slowly turned around, adopting a pose reminiscent of a monkey trying to pluck the moon. 0

Shen Du was momentarily taken aback, and after several seconds, he finally spoke, "Is this your way of telling me that you’ve fully recovered?" 0

Yao Nian quickly withdrew her hand, her face flushed bright red, unsure if it was from embarrassment or frustration. 0

Shen Du placed the porridge on the bedside table and exchanged a glance with Yao Nian. Unable to hold back any longer, his shoulders shook slightly as a low chuckle escaped his throat. 0

Yao Nian looked utterly defeated and decided to just let it all go: "I need to use the restroom." 0

Shen Du restrained the smile tugging at his lips and effortlessly reached up to take down the saline bottle that she had struggled with for so long. 0

"Next time, you can ask me earlier." 0

Seeing that Shen Du had no intention of handing her the saline bottle, Yao Nian felt a bit dazed. "Are you going to accompany me?" 0

With a natural expression, Shen Du replied, "Do you think there’s any other way?" 0

Although she felt like her bladder was about to burst, the thought of having Shen Du stand beside her holding the saline bottle while she used the restroom made her prefer to hold it in. 0
