"Boyfriend?" Shen Du choked on his drink. "What are you thinking?" 0

His mother, a recently retired university professor, was not exactly old-fashioned, but Shen Du never expected her to be so progressive. 0

The voice on the other end continued, "Your dad and I are not narrow-minded people. If you really like guys—" 0

"Stop right there," Shen Du interrupted coldly. "My sexual orientation is perfectly normal." 0

His mother clearly sighed in relief. "That's good to hear. Your Aunt San was just at our house yesterday, going on about a girl who is really great—perfect education and looks. Why don’t you find a time to meet her in the next couple of days?" 0

"Mom," Shen Du said helplessly, "I’m not at the point of needing a blind date." 0

"Don’t be so resistant to the idea of a blind date. You’re so busy with work that how many people do you actually get to meet? Just think of it as making a friend. What if you hit it off?" 0

"I meet enough people already. Really, you don’t need to worry." 0

Seeing that he was unyielding, his mother raised her voice slightly. "So you haven’t met anyone you like?" 0

Shen Du fell silent for a moment. 0

This silence sparked his mother’s curiosity. "Do you have someone you like?" 0

"No," he instinctively denied. "I... I have something to take care of right now. Remember Dr. Huang?" 0

Ever since he realized that his feelings for certain girls had crossed the line from innocent admiration to something more, Shen Du had been trying to ignore it and maintain his composure. 0

But when his mother asked if he had someone he liked, the first thought that popped into his mind was her. 0

He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and fell into deep thought. 0

During the last exam, many students came carrying their luggage. As soon as the bell rang signaling the end of the exam, everyone rushed toward the classroom door. 0

On their way back to the dormitory, Lin Mo draped her arm over Yao Nian's shoulder and suggested, "Since we're all heading back tomorrow, let’s go eat at that Thai place we love and maybe do some karaoke afterward?" 0

"Sounds great!" Fang Yilian chimed in quickly. "Since there’s no curfew tonight, we can sing after dinner!" 0

Yao Nian was busy calling Yao Zhandong when Lin Mo nudged her elbow. "So, how’s it going?" 0

"Eh," she replied absently. 0

After their camping trip last time, Yao Zhandong had called her back, sounding lethargic and hanging up after just a few words. Now she couldn’t reach him again. 0

As she reached the bottom of the dormitory building, Yao Nian's phone rang. She initially thought it was Yao Zhandong calling, but when she glanced at the caller ID, she saw it was her aunt, whom she hadn't contacted in years. 0

Why would she be calling me? 0

Yao Nian usually stayed out of adult matters. All she knew was that Qiao Shuzhen had a poor relationship with her little aunt. Since she could remember, the two families had little interaction, only occasionally running into each other at their grandparents' house. 0

"You all go ahead," Yao Nian told her friends. "I’ll take this call." 0

As soon as she answered, a sharp voice pierced through the line, almost shattering her eardrum. 0

"Your dad has been taken away by the police!" 0

Lin Mo watched Yao Nian crouched on the ground, rummaging through her suitcase, and frowned. "Can you even buy a train ticket on such short notice?" 0

Yao Nian was pulling clothes from her suitcase in a frenzy when Lin Mo's words snapped her back to reality, reminding her to check for tickets. 0
