"How can I feel at ease leaving you here alone?"

"I'll come by on the seventh," Shen Du said. "After we meet with President Yao, we'll decide how to handle this lawsuit. Until then, you shouldn't have any private contact with these people."
She pursed her lips tightly, her expression somewhat dazed. Shen Du set down his long chopsticks and pulled her into his embrace. "Don't think too much about it; leave these matters to me."
After a simple lunch, Yao Nian quickly went upstairs to pack her things. She squatted in front of her suitcase, lost in thought. What if Yao Zhandong's situation wasn't optimistic? This villa could be auctioned off at any time.
With that thought, she opened the safe and packed the two property certificates with her name on them into her suitcase. Who knows, they might come in handy later.
Yao Nian remembered the day they moved in; it was a bright afternoon. She had excitedly run around the ivy-covered yard while Yao Zhandong held Qiao Shuzhen, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, planting a kiss on her cheek. At that moment, there was still a light in the myriad of homes that belonged to her.
When Shen Du came out after washing the dishes, he saw Yao Nian standing by the entrance, lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?"
Yao Nian gazed at the villa and murmured, "Maybe next time I come back, this place won't be my home anymore."
Shen Du took the suitcase from her hands. "It's just temporarily frozen; the auction process won't start until after the verdict is effective. We still have time."
"Mm." She nodded, her expression still melancholic.
"Little girl, would you like to hold hands?"
Yao Nian looked at his outstretched hand, her attention momentarily diverted. Shen Du's palm was broad and warm, enveloping hers completely. She lowered her eyes, feeling her heart race a little faster, and slowly returned his grip.
Shen Du smiled and unconsciously tightened his hold slightly. With one hand carrying the suitcase and the other holding Yao Nian's hand, they walked out of the villa together.
The snow on the ground gradually melted, making the surface extremely slippery. Yao Nian sat in the passenger seat, watching Shen Du's slightly weary profile and silently resolved that her first task after school started would be to get her driver's license.
As she thought about it, a question suddenly popped into her mind.
Yao Nian glanced at him quietly, her lips moving slightly before she silently withdrew her gaze.
Then she heard Shen Du chuckle softly, "What were you going to say?"
Yao Nian pressed her lips together, "I didn't apply to stay on campus, so I probably won't be able to stay in the dorm."
"Who said you had to stay in the dorm?"
Just then, they hit a red light. Shen Du tapped the brake and turned his head to look at her. "You can stay at my place."
The young girl’s expression froze for a moment, and after a while, she cautiously asked, "Isn't that a bit too fast?"
Shen Du raised an eyebrow and then burst into laughter, his shoulders and chest shaking with mirth.
Seeing him laugh like that made Yao Nian feel a flicker of annoyance. "What are you laughing at?"
"I think you're cute," Shen Du said, reaching out to gently tap her on the tip of her nose. "What exactly are you thinking in that head of yours?"
Yao Nian pouted and turned her head away, ignoring him.
When the green light came on and the car started moving again, she heard Shen Du let out a sigh.
"I'm not that much of a beast."
