As soon as those words were spoken, the lively chatter at the table fell silent, and everyone turned to look at Ren Ran. On the surface, she appeared calm and collected, but beneath the table, her hands were tightly clenched together, leaving red imprints on her palms.
Yang Zhengyuan was utterly bewildered. Huh? What’s going on?
Just then, a call came in for Yao Nian. Shen Du picked up his phone and stood up. "She’s here; I’ll go answer it."
As he stepped out of the banquet hall, the table erupted into a flurry of discussion.
Yang Zhengyuan was completely perplexed. What had he just said? Not yet of legal marriage age? His voice suddenly rose in pitch. "No way!"
"Do you think that’s possible?" Zhong Tianhao retorted, exasperated. "She’s a lawyer; she knows the law better than you do."
Liu Jingjing leaned closer to Ren Ran and whispered, "Hey, Little Ran, do you know about this?"
Ren Ran didn’t respond but managed a slight nod.
"Oh, I thought you all came together; I assumed you were back together," Liu Jingjing rambled on. "I really can’t understand why Shen Du would date someone so much younger."
A server brought over a plate of Aolong, but no one at the table had any appetite for food. They kept glancing toward the entrance of the banquet hall, curious about what Shen Du's girlfriend—who was supposedly not yet of legal marriage age—looked like.
Suddenly, someone at the table shouted, "Hey, she’s here!"
Everyone's eyes turned toward the door in unison.
Ren Ran pretended to be nonchalant as she turned her head.
The girl beside Shen Du was tall and slender, wearing a light pink cashmere cardigan that accentuated her slim waist. Her white flared jeans highlighted her long legs, and her waist-length hair fell naturally to either side of her chest, exuding a youthful vibrancy.
She was beautiful but not ostentatious.
As she approached, everyone got a clearer view of her features. The girl had an elegant demeanor, and her bright facial features instantly captivated those around her.
Yao Nian was led by Shen Du to their table. When she noticed so many people staring at her, a hint of confusion flickered in her eyes.
"Let me formally introduce you," Shen Du said gently as he placed his hand on Yao Nian's shoulder. "This is my girlfriend, Yao Nian."
It was his first time introducing her in public. Although Yao Nian felt somewhat out of place, she still managed to smile graciously.
A shallow dimple appeared on her cheek as she addressed everyone: "Hello."
Yang Zhengyuan choked on his drink and was the first to speak up. "Dude! You’ve been hiding a beauty!"
Zhong Tianhao withdrew his gaze and smiled, saying, "Now I understand why Shen Lu hasn't gotten married yet. If it were me, I'd wait too."
Yao Nian listened, somewhat confused, and looked at Shen Du with a puzzled expression.
Shen Du placed a hand on her shoulder and introduced, "This is Zhong Tianhao, my college roommate."
"Hello there!" Zhong Tianhao waved at her.
Yao Nian smiled and nodded, "Senior."
"Senior?"
Shen Du chuckled, "You're not mistaken; Yao Nian is also from Huada."
Zhong Tianhao fell silent for a moment before giving Shen Du a thumbs-up. "Still in college?"
Liu Jingjing teased, "Shen Du, you're really going for the younger ones!"
Shen Du laughed lightly and said to Yao Nian, "This is Liu Jingjing, Zheyuan's cousin."
He introduced everyone in order, and when it came to Ren Ran, he paused. The group exchanged glances in a silent agreement not to speak.
Ren Ran sized up Yao Nian and took the initiative to introduce herself. "Hi, I'm Ren Ran."
