Zhong Tianhao raised his glass and tapped it against the glass turntable, quickly trying to lighten the mood. "Come on, everyone, stop joking around. It's rare for us to gather like this, so let's all raise a glass together!"
Throughout the event, he maintained his composure, but at that moment, Ren Ran's face showed a hint of color. Watching the man protect her, she couldn't help but admit that she was almost driven mad with jealousy.
As the banquet progressed into its later stages, Shen Du noticed that the young girl had become quieter. No matter what he asked her, she remained unresponsive, and he thought it was because of something Wang Xiaowen had said that upset her.
He leaned in and asked, "Are you angry?"
Yao Nian replied coolly, "Because of her? I wouldn't be that petty."
Just then, Ji Zheyuan and Song Xiaolin approached their table to toast them. The sound of clinking glasses filled the air as everyone offered their blessings, and they insisted on pouring several drinks for the groom before finally letting him off the hook.
Since Shen Du had been drinking that night and wasn’t driving, he informed Ji Zheyuan before taking Yao Nian's hand to catch a ride home.
As they reached the hotel entrance, a woman hurriedly caught up with them.
"Ah Du."
Hearing that familiar term of endearment made Yao Nian frown and stop in her tracks. Shen Du glanced at Yao Nian but remained silent. He thought he had made things clear enough during his last conversation with Ren Ran, yet she suddenly called out to him now in front of Yao Nian, leaving him unsure of her intentions.
Ren Ran approached them and handed him a business card. "On the day of the family gathering in January, didn’t Auntie mention her back pain? I’ve referred her to an experienced traditional Chinese doctor; I've already contacted him."
Seeing the girl’s momentary surprise, Ren Ran smiled slightly. She hadn’t guessed wrong. Shen Du hadn’t mentioned that day’s family gathering to Yao Nian.
"It’s like this," Ren Ran said with a smile. "I’ve been busy with renovations lately and haven’t had time to visit. Could you please take this to Auntie for me? And ask about her well-being?"
Without waiting for Shen Du to respond, she pressed the business card into his hand and turned to leave.
Once they were in the car, Yao Nian couldn’t hold back any longer. She frowned at the driver and said, "Hua University."
Shen Du pursed his lips. "Driver, Guoyue Mansion."
"No! Just Hua University!"
The driver looked troubled. "These two places are on different routes. Can you discuss it first?"
Shen Du sighed. Although he didn't know when she had realized it, it was clear that the young girl was aware of the situation.
He gently grasped Yao Nian's wrist and said softly, "You can be angry, but could you give me a little time to explain?"
Yao Nian felt a wave of frustration in her heart. She knew that Ren Ran had mentioned a family gathering, but at that time, they were already together. So, what identity did she have among all his relatives?
"Guoyue Mansion," Shen Du told the driver.
As soon as they entered the apartment, the noise faded away, leaving just the two of them. Yao Nian looked at him, and her eyes immediately turned red.
Shen Du suddenly felt flustered; he hadn't even taken off his shoes before he hurriedly pulled her into his embrace.
The young girl spoke with a sense of suffocation, "Why don't you tell me anything?"
