She had never seen his spring, nor would she ever experience the impulsiveness he felt at the age of ten. She was accustomed to chattering around him, and he would patiently watch her, yet she could never glimpse into his heart. Yao Nian was extremely certain that she would never like anyone else as much as she liked him.
But for someone she cherished so deeply, she had never considered a future with him.
When Shen Du chased after her, the girl had long vanished. It wasn't until he returned upstairs and thought about calling her that he realized her phone was left at the entrance. He was at a loss and could only seek help from her roommate, asking Lin Mo to ensure that Yao Nian called him back after returning to the dorm.
Listening to the man's anxious tone, Lin Mo instinctively felt something was wrong and quickly agreed.
Yao Nian only realized her phone was at Shen Du's place when she was about to pay.
"Driver, can you wait for me for ten minutes? Just ten minutes. I'll go upstairs to grab the money and bring it back to you."
The driver replied irritably, "What kind of joke is this? If you leave now, where am I supposed to find someone else?"
Yao Nian explained in a calm voice, "It’s not like that; I’ll cover your waiting time."
"No, you can’t leave anyway," he insisted, handing her his phone. "Just call someone to bring the money."
"Alright then."
She took the phone and was about to press the dial button when she awkwardly realized that she usually contacted Lin Mo and Fang Yi through WeChat and couldn’t remember their phone numbers.
The only number she remembered...
Forget it.
Seeing her hold the phone without making a move for a long time, the driver quickly lost his patience. "Are you going to call or not? Do you know how much time I’m wasting here?"
"Sorry," Yao Nian returned the phone to him, feeling embarrassed. "How about you give me their numbers? I’ll transfer the money to you later."
"Hey!" He slammed his hand on the steering wheel and opened the car door, ready to argue with her. "I think you just don’t want to pay! You look clean-cut; you don’t seem like someone without money. Why are you trying to skip out on your fare?"
Just as Yao Nian was about to defend herself, a lazy voice called out from not far away.
"Driver, are we leaving or not?"
She found the voice familiar and followed it with her gaze. When the man approaching saw her, his expression clearly froze.
Their eyes met; Xiao Chi stared at her and raised an eyebrow. "What a coincidence."
Yao Nian awkwardly cleared her throat.
"We can't leave," the driver said with a glance at him, irritation clear in his voice. "This girl hasn't paid."
She couldn't help but argue, "I told you to wait for me a moment."
Xiao Chi smirked, scanning the QR code stuck to the center console with his phone. "How much?"
The driver eyed him. "Fifty-eight. Since you've delayed me for so long, you need to add ten for my trouble."
Hearing the notification of a hundred yuan received, the driver's expression immediately brightened. "Young man, where are you headed?"
Xiao Chi shut the car door and hurried away.
"You just said you were leaving! Are you messing with me?" The driver pressed the accelerator and drove off, leaving the two of them standing there.
Yao Nian cleared her throat and spoke first, "Thank you."
"Did your phone fall again?"
"Yeah," she sighed. "I'll pay you back for the taxi fare when I get home."
Xiao Chi raised an eyebrow. "How will you pay me back if your phone is gone?"
"I have cash in my dorm." Yao Nian instinctively replied.
He slipped his hands into his pockets and lifted his chin slightly. "Then let's go."
Yao Nian paused for a moment. "Where to? Aren't you supposed to collect your money?"
