The enchanting memories of last night still lingered, those hazy fragments swirling in her mind, as if reminding her of the fulfillment she had experienced.
She pulled back the covers, enduring a slight discomfort beneath her, and maneuvered her legs to the bathroom to wash up.
As Shen Du opened the door and stepped inside, he found the bed empty.
"Where is she?"
The girl peeked out from the bathroom doorway, her mouth full of foam, mumbling a response.
Shen Du followed her in, his gaze instinctively drifting downwards.
Yao Nian spat out the foam, feeling a mix of embarrassment and anger. "What are you looking at?"
Shen Du wrapped his arms around her from behind, glancing at the girl in the mirror. "Still feeling unwell?"
After last night's events, Yao Nian's body was unusually sensitive; even the slightest touch sent shivers through her.
She awkwardly turned her head away, focusing on brushing her teeth. "Why have you become so clingy?"
"Isn't it because I'm afraid my girl will run away?" The man replied with his usual playful smile.
Yao Nian ignored him.
As she dried her face with a towel and tossed it into the trash can, she caught sight of a small torn package.
Her ears burned with embarrassment, but she couldn't help but ask him, "Why do you have this at home?"
"It's from our family," Shen Du corrected her. "It was in Zhe Yuan's wedding gift box. I didn't expect it to be used so soon."
Yao Nian raised an eyebrow. "Which family includes condoms in their wedding gift boxes?"
After finishing up, Shen Du went to the kitchen to bring out the warm dishes he had prepared.
Yao Nian hadn't felt hungry at first, but as soon as she caught a whiff of the delicious aroma, her appetite kicked in. She eagerly grabbed a spoon and took a sip of soup.
Reaching for her phone to check the time, she suddenly remembered that it was still with Shen Du.
"Where's my phone?" Yao Nian asked, looking up at him.
Shen Du was busy serving rice in the kitchen and replied without looking up, "I brought it back to my room to charge last night."
Yao Nian returned to her bedroom and took out her phone. There were several unread messages on WeChat, one of which was from Xiao Chi.
"Yao Nian, don't forget that you owe me a favor."
"Actually, it's two."
Yao Nian felt a bit embarrassed. Two taxi fares, plus the drinks at the bar—she quickly transferred the money over.
Shen Du brought her meal to the table and caught a glimpse of her screen. He asked casually, "What kind of favor do you owe?"
Yao Nian looked up and met his deep gaze. "Oh, I borrowed some money from him."
"What did you borrow money for?"
"My phone fell into your hands, didn't it? I didn't pay for the taxi, so I just asked him for some."
Shen Du peeled a shrimp and fed it to her, his tone slightly displeased. "The one who sent you flowers?"
Yao Nian felt anger rising at the mention of it. "If you saw it, why bring it up?"
He paused for a moment. "You saw me?"
Yao Nian replied coolly, "Not only did I see you, but I also ran out to find you. You were so quick, and I couldn't contact you without my phone!"
Shen Du realized what it meant to shoot oneself in the foot. He cleared his throat and said, "I'm a bit forgetful. I'll get some cash for you later; keep it in your bag for emergencies. And try not to contact him too much in the future."
Feeling that wasn't enough, he added, "You have a boyfriend now; keep some distance from other guys."
Yao Nian wasn't satisfied and deliberately went against him. "I won't do that."
Shen Du shot her a glance, set down his chopsticks, and moved closer to her, trapping her in his embrace. His words carried a warning tone. "You dare!"
