Yao Zhandong's gaze was icy as she came to take you home. She immediately hid behind Shen Du, pressing her voice low as she questioned, "How could you bring him here?"
Look at you, so useless. Yao Zhandong leaned against the car window and snorted coldly. "Shen Du said you weren't coming home for the summer vacation, so I came to check on you. Is that a problem?"
Yao Nian stammered, "I have an internship."
Yao Zhandong shot back instantly, "How old are you? What kind of internship are you doing?"
Seeing that Yao Nian was about to explode, Shen Du quickly intervened. "Let’s get in the car and go eat first. I’ll explain everything later."
Sitting in the back seat, Yao Nian watched the two of them chatting happily in front and felt a surge of questions bubbling inside her. Just a couple of days ago, Yao Zhandong had sworn she would never agree to them being together, yet now she seemed completely unfazed.
Had she changed her mind?
When they arrived at the restaurant, Yao Zhandong went to the restroom. The pent-up tension made Yao Nian turn to Shen Du immediately and ask, "What’s going on? How did you two end up together?"
As he heated up the utensils, Shen Du replied, "I told you yesterday I was going on a business trip, but actually I went to Huai Bei to meet with President Yao."
Yao Nian gasped. However, she didn’t have time to dwell on Shen Du lying to her; she quickly asked nervously, "Did he lay a hand on you?"
"Not at all," Shen Du laughed. "President Yao can be a bit temperamental, but he’s still a reasonable person. As for our situation—"
Yao Nian could hardly stand his teasing tone and urged him impatiently, "Just tell me already!"
"He doesn’t oppose it anymore."
She froze for three seconds. "Really?"
Shen Du nodded with a smile.
"Wait," Yao Nian said suspiciously. "Did you perform some kind of ritual on my dad?"
The sound of running water came from the restroom as Yao Zhandong emerged and quipped sarcastically, "The soundproofing here is terrible."
Implying that she had heard everything they said.
Yao Nian pouted and couldn’t help but confirm again, "You really agreed?"
Yao Zhandong shot her a glance. "Whether I agree or not, do you even listen to me?"
"If what you say is wrong, why should I listen?"
"Then why are you asking?"
Yao Nian frowned and said, "Can you speak a little more civilly?"
Shen Du sighed. It seemed that whenever the two women spoke, they were bound to get into a quarrel.
Yao Zhandong took a sip of tea, leaned back in his chair, and cleared his throat. "Dating is your own business; I can't and don't want to interfere. Shen Du is someone who knows you well enough. He dotes on you, but don’t be too willful. Sometimes, it’s good to temper that bad temper of yours."
He glanced at Shen Du. "But if he dares to treat you poorly, feel free to come back to your old man. I’ll stand up for you."
Yao Nian felt a sharp sting in her nose, her breathing noticeably becoming heavier.
However, this moment of sentimentality lasted only a second before Yao Zhandong gave her a light pat on the head. "What’s the big deal? No need to cry."
She wiped her eyes and stubbornly said, "Who’s crying?"
Ignoring her, Yao Zhandong raised his teacup and clinked it with Shen Du's. "Don’t mind me; I just like to say the ugly truths upfront."
Shen Du chuckled. "How could I mind?"
Yao Nian reached under the table and scratched Shen Du's palm, which he then clasped with his hand.
After a hearty meal, the atmosphere at the dinner was pleasant. It was evident that Shen Du had ordered dishes according to Yao Zhandong's taste. He leaned back in his chair, rubbing his stomach after eating too much.
"Are you really planning not to come back this summer?"
With her reservations gone, Yao Nian began speaking more casually, caught up in the excitement of new love.
Shen Du responded with a smile, "Well, Mr. Yao, there hasn’t been much opportunity lately. Since it’s summer vacation, I’d like to take Yao Nian out for a trip. Afterward, I’ll bring her back to Huaibei."
Yao Zhandong waved his hand helplessly.
