Yunsu dialed her cousin's phone and learned that she was still on duty, so she headed straight to the police station.
At first, her cousin thought Yunsu had been watching too many detective novels, but after listening to her narrative, she found it quite plausible.
With no evidence to support her claims, it was merely Yunsu's word against the world. Furthermore, the key witness, A Qi, had not reported the incident. It was an old case from two years ago, and without witnesses or new evidence, the chances of the police reopening the investigation were slim.
A Qi's refusal to accompany her to the police station only added to her frustration.
Did it really take another life for anyone to take this seriously?
"Don't be so downcast; didn't that man with a mole at the corner of his mouth just appear?" her cousin said. "Based on A Qi's description, that man climbed over the wall and leaned against a tree to smoke. This presents two possibilities: first, he was nervous and curious about the female university student without any clear intent; second, he was smoking while waiting for the right moment, waiting for everyone in the building to return to their rooms. The fact that he smoked and then put the cigarette butt back in his pocket indicates he has some counter-surveillance skills."
"If that's true, then he must have gone there with malicious intent. But here's a question: how did he know Le Xue was taking a shower at that time? And that she was alone in the bathroom? Could he have spied on her from somewhere else?"
"No, that's impossible. The bathroom windows were covered with paper; even if the lights were on inside at night, someone outside wouldn't be able to see what was happening inside."

Feeling helpless, Yunsu called A Qi. Her voice sounded slightly hoarse on the other end of the line.
"Senior Sister, are you okay?"

"Don't you understand? Two years have passed, and everything has changed beyond recognition."
"Senior Sister!" The busy tone echoed from the other end as A Qi hung up the phone.
Cousin He Weiran looked at her. "What's wrong? She won't come?"
"Yes."
"A heart filled with vengeance finds it hard to attain redemption. Though I don't believe in religion, I understand this truth. But to be honest, Xiao Yun, even if she comes forward and reveals everything, without the pursuit of those directly involved, it is unlikely we can reopen the investigation. Moreover, what A Qi said does not constitute solid evidence."
"I understand, Sister. You have your principles to follow; the police are not omnipotent."
"Perhaps this is fate's arrangement, but we must not blame our own powerlessness on destiny. Tomorrow is Monday; don't you have classes? It's late, and you're still out here alone. Let me take you home."
"Sister, do you know where Le Xue's mother is now?" Yunsu suddenly asked.
"She is in a nursing home in the suburbs. I happen to have business there tomorrow."
Yunsu's gaze fell on a leather folder beside her sister.
"Is it a new case?"
"A case of molestation. The victim is a 12-year-old girl, a patient at this sanatorium. The bastard is a doctor at the facility."
"I want to go with you tomorrow."
