"It's all right now, don't worry. The delivery was particularly timely," the Attending Physician in a white coat said as he stepped out of the ward.
"Thank you, Doctor." He Weiran turned to look at Lin Xue, whose face was streaked with tears. "You can go in to see her now."
"Thank you." Lin Xue, holding back tears and lowering her head, followed the police officer who was guarding the door into the room.
The three people outside let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed behind them, creating a sense of urgency in the quiet corridor. Huo Yiheng was running toward them.
"The instigator has finally shown up," Yunsu murmured.
"This sinner has finally revealed himself," San Zhua said bitterly.
"Let them reunite as a family. You two come with me to the police station to give your statements."
"What about A Qi?"
"She's fine. The doctor gave her a sedative, and she's asleep."
"Can we listen to that recording?"
"We'll talk about it at the station. I can't stand listening to people crying." After saying this, the cousin walked ahead in her clicking high heels.
Upon arriving at the office of Criminal Investigation Team Two, the three of them huddled together, staring blankly at a tape recorder.
“Ugh…” The tape began with a series of indistinct conversations, interspersed with a buzzing melody that sounded like it was coming from outside the door.
Cousin frowned in impatience; San Zhua rested his head on his arms, looking half-asleep; while Yunsu kept rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
Finally, there was a sound resembling a door opening, followed by the voice of a waiter and some music. Once the surroundings fell silent, a man's voice emerged:
“Sister Shan, I’m really glad you could come. These past two years have been miserable for me! That woman I was with ran off with someone else, and I’ve got no money left. Look at me—neither human nor ghost, over thirty and with nothing to my name. Now that two years have passed, I’ve come back with no other intention but to find a place to settle down and live a stable life.”
“You’re here to ask for money, aren’t you?” A woman’s voice responded.
“I’m just here to collect the final payment.”
“I’ve already given you everything!”
“Don’t get worked up over such a small amount! What kind of world are we living in? You’re the mother of the sole heir of Mingjian Construction Group, stepping out from behind the scenes. Do you really care about that little bit of money? That ring on your hand could probably keep me living lavishly for quite some time. Hmph, it must be from Manager Huo…”
A sharp slap echoed through the air.
“Get your filthy hands off! I haven’t even settled my daughter’s account with you yet. How dare you come asking for money? If it weren’t for you, my daughter wouldn’t be in such a terrible situation!” The woman spoke through gritted teeth, clearly struggling to contain her anger.
Listening intently, Yunsu estimated that these two were likely in a high-end massage parlor.
"It's not my fault. That idiot is dead, and your most hated person has gone mad. You've avenged your daughter; what more do you want?"
"But my daughter's innocence is gone!"
"What about Le Xue? She not only lost her innocence but also her life!" A loud crash echoed, likely a beer bottle smashing on the floor, followed by a long silence. Then came the sound of a lighter flicking.
"I went to see Mrs. Huo, or should I say the former Mrs. Huo. She's completely lost her mind; isn't that what you were hoping for?"
"She brought it upon herself."
"Maybe, but she's no longer that wealthy lady who used to point at my nose and tell me to get lost. Now she acts like a wrinkled dog, asking everyone, 'Is the job done?' I thought she recognized me, but then the nurse told me she asks that of everyone."
"Haha, if she weren't so jealous, she wouldn't have ended up like this."
After a moment of silence, the sound of a man swallowing could be heard; it seemed he was chugging down beer.
