Lin Yao was not one to believe in superstitions. She took out the energy matrix blueprint and examined it closely; it was filled with various dots and lines. Just as it was labeled, she couldn’t make sense of it at all. However, judging by the reactions of others, this energy matrix seemed to be something extraordinary. Just because she couldn’t understand it now didn’t mean she wouldn’t be able to in the future.
With a sigh, she set the blueprint aside. Looking at that energy matrix made her grateful that she had completed Task Three last night; without signing off, the information would have popped up, leaving her with nothing but to stare at it.
However, today’s task had increased in difficulty significantly. Task One had changed to eliminating a Level Two beast, raising the challenge by more than double. Even more challenging was Task Three; with her current lag behind, there was no way she could encounter other candidates!
Feeling troubled for a moment, Lin Yao decided to go with the flow. She needed to focus on completing the first two tasks as soon as possible. Using her wood-based abilities, she attempted to communicate with nearby plant creatures and inquire about any beasts in the vicinity.
Unfortunately, her level was still low, and the proud plant creatures were unwilling to respond to her. With no other choice, Lin Yao offered a bit of wood energy and finally received information about a Level Two mountain raccoon.
The mountain raccoon was agile and quick-witted, especially in its home turf of the jungle; it would be difficult to deal with. Lin Yao crouched down and waited patiently until the mountain raccoon relaxed its guard before suddenly activating her wood abilities to bind it.
However, it only stayed trapped for a moment before breaking free. Yet Lin Yao was not one to back down easily; as soon as it escaped, she leaped from her hiding spot and kicked it.
The kick landed solidly, causing the mountain raccoon to tumble to the ground before quickly getting back up. It arched its back and let out a sharp yowl, clearly enraged by her attack.
Lin Yao waved her hand provocatively at it—come on! The mountain raccoon hunched its body and charged at her fiercely, its claws glinting menacingly in mid-air.
Not intimidated, Lin Yao conjured a vine whip in her hand and swung it just as the raccoon lunged toward her. The whip sliced through the air with a whoosh.
The mountain raccoon tried to dodge but could only twist its body slightly while airborne, narrowly avoiding a fatal blow. The whip struck hard against its belly, drawing blood.
Realizing that this person was not to be trifled with, the Mountain Lynx hesitated for a moment, its body instinctively shrinking back.
Lin Yao would not let it escape. She urged the vines to surge forward, enveloping the Mountain Lynx in a relentless assault.
"Little kitty, I’m not playing with you anymore," Lin Yao declared, tightening the grip of the vines.
With a chilling cry, the Mountain Lynx was strangled within the twisting tendrils.
Once the creature lay lifeless, Lin Yao leisurely approached, preparing to pick it up. Suddenly, a sharp sound sliced through the air towards her.
Lin Yao quickly rolled to the side, glancing back to see a searing mark where she had just stood.
It was a high-powered energy gun!
This type of energy weapon was silent yet deadly; wherever it struck, flesh would dissolve in an instant. For someone like Lin Yao, who had only mastered third-level physical techniques, a single shot could render her combat ineffective.
"Who’s there?" Lin Yao stood up, on guard as she scanned for the source of the gunfire.
The attacker did not conceal themselves and stepped forward, brandishing a Soul Core!
Knowing about the Soul Core meant this person had witnessed the energy entity invasion earlier that day. If they were a high-level ability user dealing with her was not difficult; thus, this attacker must be one of the soldiers present.
"What Soul Core? I don’t know anything about it," Lin Yao insisted, trying to hide her knowledge of the situation.
No one saw her hide her belongings; at that moment, she could not afford to admit anything.
"You experienced an energy entity invasion today and you don’t know what a Soul Core is?" The attacker’s voice turned icy.
"I... I fainted! How could I see where the Soul Core is?" Lin Yao replied with an air of helplessness.
The attacker raised their gun, aiming it directly at her. Fear washed over Lin Yao's face as her voice quivered with desperation. "I truly didn’t see any Soul Core!"
"If there’s no Soul Core, then give me your Spirit Body!"
"I’ve already absorbed my Spirit Body!"
"You think a low-level third-tier ability user could absorb their Spirit Body so quickly? Do you take me for some bumpkin from the Yunmeng Star System? Hurry up and show me!"
Did she discover something extraordinary?
Is this person not from the Yunmeng Star System?
Lin Yao's mind raced, her face still reflecting fear. I really absorbed the energy entity. Big brother, don’t act impulsively! I’m currently taking an exam and everything is under surveillance. If you attack me, you’ll end up in a military court.
Hmph, I wouldn’t leave such a loophole. Die! The man shouted, shooting directly at Lin Yao.
Lin Yao had been waiting for this moment.
As the man felt triumphant, believing he was certain to hit his target and relaxed his guard, she unleashed her Level Four Psychic Ability, sending a mental stab straight into his psychic sea!
The man was struck and immediately lost his focus.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yao rushed forward and kicked the attacker to the ground.
With punch after punch, she smashed his head repeatedly.
After beating him to a bloody pulp with no resistance left, Lin Yao picked up the energy gun from the ground and shot it directly into his heart.
Once he was dealt with, Lin Yao collapsed onto the ground, utterly exhausted.
She had thought that being reborn in the Yunmeng Star System, a place devoid of star beasts, would ensure her safety.
Who would have guessed that within a single day, she would face two life-and-death crises?
There truly is no absolutely safe place in this world!
Lost in thought for a moment, Lin Yao began to consider how to deal with this person.
She was still under examination and everything was being monitored.
No matter how that person managed to evade surveillance, if they reviewed her exam footage later, they would definitely notice something unusual.
If she wanted to live a clean life in the future, she couldn’t keep this hidden.
Having realized this, Lin Yao stopped hesitating and pressed the emergency contact button on her wristband to report the incident.
The invigilators were shocked upon hearing what had transpired.
I suspect this person is an alien spy; he mentioned during our conversation that he thought I was just one of those bumpkins from the Yunmeng Star System.
Although Lin Yao acted in self-defense, killing a fellow soldier who made a mistake is entirely different from killing an alien spy.
Understood! Please stay where you are; I will send someone to handle it immediately!
In the jungle, landing a spaceship was difficult, so four soldiers arrived at the scene piloting mechs.
They first verified information with Lin Yao before disembarking from their mechs. After surveying the area and documenting their findings, they began to package the bodies. One of the soldiers then stepped forward and said to Lin Yao, "Candidate, you need to report the information and confirm your registration on the spaceship. Please accompany us for a moment."
