Liu Tingke pondered her own feelings. Although she had a bad temper and often bullied others, she had also given him warmth and peace. Yet, damn it, he had watched her walk towards another man without doing anything.
Frustrated, the rustling sounds from the corner only fueled his anger. He angrily pushed aside the branches and saw someone curled up behind the bushes, tears streaming down their face.
Deng Ling looked up at him, trying hard to force a smile but failing miserably. "I got dumped."
Qi Yang was wrapped in a towel, having just shared an intimate kiss with another woman before they both entered a high-end hotel. She had waited outside for five hours, but he never came out.
When she finally knocked on the door in a panic, feeling like a jilted lover, Qi Yang appeared, and the woman lay naked on the bed. The lewd atmosphere felt like a cruel mockery of her pain.
She fled in a panic, too afraid to go home. She didn't want to see him and instead sought a place to hide and nurse her wounds alone.
"You must be laughing at me, right? I didn't listen to you and almost stupidly offered myself up," she said.
"I don't have time to laugh at you." Liu Tingke pulled her out from the bushes, utterly baffled by how she had gotten herself into such a mess. "I'm tired. Where's the key?"
Deng Ling took out the key and looked at him with hopeful eyes. "Aren't you going to comfort me?"
Liu Tingke thought for a moment and replied, "Congratulations on escaping from your misery."
Deng Ling was speechless. It was utterly foolish to have any hope in him.
As she fumed silently, she suddenly realized that being betrayed by that jerk could actually be seen as a kind of liberation—he wasn't wrong in some sense.
She still wouldn't let him off easily. "You say your words are so sharp. Just because you say he's not a good man, does that make it true? You owe me a good man!"
"Well, do you think I'm good enough?"
"… Forget it, I’ll just go to sleep."
Liu Tingke sighed helplessly; he was being serious...
The heartbreak left Deng Ling emotionally and physically drained. After falling ill, she took the opportunity to quit her job. Qi Yang called her back, shifting all the blame for his infidelity onto her. Deng Ling looked down on him even more and couldn’t help but ask after hanging up, "Do men only think about getting into bed? I just wanted to protect myself, and he actually thinks I'm too conservative?"
Not to mention, in the end, who benefited from her conservativeness?
"Yeah, you didn't do anything wrong!" Liu Tingke nodded with a big smile. "But not all men are like that." The man in front of you is a perfect gentleman!
Deng Ling glanced at him and saw his expression—both infatuated and a bit cocky—which startled her. She quickly shifted her attention back to the newspaper in front of her.
"What are you doing?"
"Looking for a job." Just thinking about work made her head ache again. Why was she so unfortunate? Not only did she suffer from a breakup, but now she was also unemployed! She wished she could find a wealthy partner to marry instead!
But that was just a fantasy. There were countless wealthy suitors in the world, and even more women dreaming of them; when would it be her turn?
Liu Tingke quickly objected, "You’re still not fully recovered."
"You think I want this? I have a family to support, bills to pay, and I have to take care of you..." Just thinking about it made her heart ache. She glared at him, wondering why she had gotten herself into such a big mess. "If I don't look for a job, are you going to support me?"
Relying on him for support... That seemed more like a dream of finding a wealthy benefactor.
Liu Tingke straightened his back and confidently declared, "No worries, from now on, I'll take care of you!"
