On that fateful day, a kind-hearted Noodle Shop Owner was busy slicing meat in his bustling shop. His noodles were known for their delightful chewiness, and the broth was rich and flavorful. Not only were the prices affordable, but the generous portions of meat were also incredibly tasty. As a result, his noodle shop was packed every day, with countless diners eagerly lining up to devour their meals.
Little did they know, the delicious broth was made by simmering Human Bones, and the succulent meat was actually human flesh disguised as beef. If it weren't for the fear of arousing suspicion, the owner would have gladly served entire thighs to his customers.
After the incident, many people flocked to the local hospital for stomach pumping. No one could have anticipated that the Noodle Shop Owner had single-handedly destroyed all the other noodle shops in the area. So, what exactly happened?
Date of Incident: July 7, 2006.
Location: Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province.

That morning, a retired worker named Old Li from Dahuakan Town was taking his usual stroll by the river in the town square. Suddenly, he caught a whiff of an extremely foul odor. Out of curiosity, he followed the smell into the grassy area by the riverbank and unexpectedly stepped on something round and heavy.
Upon closer inspection, he was horrified to find that he had stepped on a disembodied human head with long hair cascading around it. The head stared back at him with wide-open eyes.
Minutes later, although police officers quickly cordoned off the scene, news of the Female Head found by the river spread rapidly through the small town, drawing a crowd of onlookers. Everyone speculated about who the victim might be and who could be so cruel as to commit murder and dismemberment.
After a preliminary examination of the head by forensic experts, it was determined that the victim was likely an 18-year-old female who had died between 24 to 48 hours prior. The cause of death remained unknown.
Unfortunately, due to the deliberate mutilation of her face by the killer and the hot weather causing significant decomposition, it was impossible to identify her features. However, from the clean cut around her neck, it was clear that she had been decapitated after death.
A search of the surrounding area revealed no signs of struggle or any other body parts or bloodstains. This indicated that the grassy area by the river was not the original crime scene; rather, the head had been discarded there by the perpetrator.
Police theorized that the killer was likely a local resident. If they were from out of town, their first instinct after committing murder would have been to dispose of the body in the river and flee. Only a local would be concerned about being discovered and choose to dismember the victim before disposing of her remains in different locations. However, using this reasoning to identify the murderer seemed like an impossible task.
The most critical task at hand was to identify the deceased. Therefore, the police in Hanzhong City quickly formed a special task force and began a large-scale investigation using the reconstructed photographs of the head.
However, after two days of inquiries, the majority of the public reported that they did not recognize the deceased. This suggested that the victim was likely not a local resident but rather an outsider, possibly a migrant worker.
On July 10, 2006, while the officers continued their door-to-door investigations, they received another report from the public about suspicious body parts found near a public restroom close to the market.
A scavenger had just finished using the restroom when he casually glanced at a corner beside the sink and discovered 14 black garbage bags piled up there.
Due to his professional instincts, the scavenger suspected that there might be something valuable inside, so he skillfully opened one of the bags. To his shock, he found frozen chunks of meat and some bones inside.
Although he could not identify what animal they belonged to, recalling the case of the severed head discovered by the police a few days earlier sent chills down his spine. He instinctively thought these might be body parts that had yet to be found by law enforcement.
Upon receiving the report, the special task force immediately conducted tests on the body parts discovered in the restroom. The results confirmed that these frozen pieces were indeed human tissue. Additionally, forensic experts pieced together that these chunks of meat and bones were incomplete, indicating that more body parts remained undiscovered.
Based on the characteristics of the wounds and signs of freezing on these body parts, the task force deduced that the perpetrator was likely involved in slaughtering or cooking. They promptly increased police presence and focused their investigations on areas within several kilometers of the dumping site.
On July 12, 2006, at noon, Xiao Pang and his cousin visited a beef noodle shop in town called Niu Mou Wan. They had heard that the owner made delicious noodles with a rich flavor and generous portions of beef, truly living up to its name.
Soon enough, their specialty large bowl of beef noodles was served. Seeing the generous and fragrant beef on top, Xiao Pang eagerly dug in, savoring each bite while praising how exceptional the beef was—truly unforgettable.
Suddenly, Xiao Pang felt something hard in his mouth and quickly spat out what he had bitten into onto the table. To his horror, he discovered a white, flat object among the meat remnants that resembled a human fingernail. He immediately called for the owner.
Although the owner smiled apologetically and offered to make them another bowl, Xiao Pang couldn't shake off thoughts of a recent dismemberment case in town. His stomach churned as he increasingly felt something was off because those greasy chunks of meat did not look like beef at all.
A terrifying thought flashed through his mind; he quickly grabbed his cousin and rushed out of the noodle shop. Once outside, Xiao Pang shared his suspicions with his cousin, who couldn't help but start vomiting halfway through hearing it.
Though Xiao Pang wasn't entirely certain that what they had encountered in the noodle shop was human flesh, both he and his cousin agreed that this matter was serious enough to warrant immediate police involvement.
At the same time, the police officers responsible for the external investigation reported back with a piece of information: some citizens had mentioned that the repair photos of the severed head bore a striking resemblance to a waitress named Xiao Lan at the local "Niu Mou Wan" noodle shop.
In light of what Xiao Pang had just reported, the special investigation team could no longer sit idle. They decided to launch an immediate investigation into the noodle shop under the pretext of checking food hygiene.
When the team arrived at the noodle shop, they found that business was still booming. The Noodle Shop Owner was busy preparing bone broth. Seizing the opportunity while no one was paying attention, two police officers headed straight for the kitchen.
Upon seeing police officers enter the kitchen, the owner was momentarily taken aback, his eyes filled with panic, as he had never expected them to show up. However, he quickly regained his composure and smiled as he tried to block their way.
But the officers were not fooled by his act. Noticing his slightly pale complexion, they immediately sensed something was amiss in the kitchen. One officer restrained him while the other opened the freezer, only to discover a human leg lying there along with several suspicious bags of meat.
To avoid causing panic among customers, the special investigation team informed those dining that there were hygiene issues at the noodle shop and that it would be temporarily closed. Hearing this, the diners quickly got up and left. Subsequently, forensic technicians collected all the meat and broth from the shop for testing at the police station.
To their shock, aside from normal beef, some of the meat and bones in the broth were human remains belonging to two different victims. One of these victims matched the severed head discovered on July 7th, while the other was linked to body parts found in a public restroom on July 10th.
Investigations revealed that the owner of the noodle shop was named Wang Mouqi, 37 years old, from Hanzhong City Hantai District.
The special investigation team discovered that Wang Mouqi had a notorious criminal record. In 1987, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for Rape. During his incarceration in 1991, he managed to escape and even stole a firearm after his escape.
Fortunately, Wang Mouqi was quickly recaptured after his escape, preventing any serious consequences. Ultimately, due to his escape and theft of a firearm, his sentence was extended to fourteen years. He was released in 2001 for good behavior and remorse shown during his time in prison.
After his release, with support from his family, Wang Mouqi opened a noodle shop where he led a humble life, married, and started a family, enjoying a seemingly happy life.
During interrogation, Wang Mouqi confessed to police that in May 2006, due to the success of his noodle shop and his wife being busy taking care of their child, he put up a recruitment notice outside his shop looking for a waitress.
Soon after, a young woman named Xiao Meng, only twenty years old and quite attractive, became employed at the noodle shop. However, seeing this young girl awakened a dormant evil within Wang Mouqi, which had been suppressed for over a decade. Dark thoughts surged within him uncontrollably.
One night shortly after Xiao Meng started working there—when his wife had gone home to care for their child and the shop had closed—Wang Mouqi succumbed to his primal instincts and forcibly assaulted Xiao Meng.
After the incident, Xiao Meng was devastated and insisted on reporting it to the police. However, when Wang Mouqi heard Xiao Meng mention going to the police, he immediately recalled his years spent in prison. He truly did not want to live another day without freedom, so he steeled himself and grabbed a kitchen knife, killing Xiao Meng.
After committing the crime, he remembered what his fellow inmates had said: as long as the body was not found, the police could not convict him.
He then looked at the ingredients in the kitchen meant for making beef noodles and came up with a plan: to dismember Xiao Meng's body and mix it into the beef so that others would unknowingly consume it, making it disappear without a trace. The bones that could not be consumed would be used to make bone broth.
As for the head, he placed it in a black garbage bag along with some stones and tossed it into the river. After completing all of this, he told his wife that Xiao Meng could not handle hardship and had quit her job.
His wife did not suspect anything and instead hired a new waitress named Xiao Lan. However, when Wang Mouqi saw that Xiao Lan was only 17 years old, he felt tempted again. But having just killed Xiao Meng, he dared not act impulsively and waited patiently for over a month.
On July 5, 2006, seeing that no one had discovered Xiao Meng's death after such a long time, Wang Mouqi repeated his previous actions. He raped Xiao Lan and dismembered her body, throwing her head into the river as well.
With fresh meat on hand, he disposed of the remaining pieces of Xiao Meng's flesh in a public restroom. These pieces had already been frozen for over a month, and customers complained about them being stale. Little did he know that the river would wash Xiao Lan's head onto the grass. Additionally, the cleaning staff did not promptly clear out the trash from the public restroom.
Thus, the truth of the case came to light, and soon news of the Beef Noodle Shop Dismemberment Case spread rapidly.
In no time, hospitals experienced a surge in patients needing gastric lavage; residents from nearby neighborhoods who had eaten or even just heard about the beef noodles were all vomiting and rushing to get their stomachs cleaned out.
Wang Mouqi single-handedly destroyed all noodle shops in the vicinity because for several months afterward, no one dared to eat beef noodles again.
In September 2006, Hanzhong Intermediate People's Court held a closed trial for this case.
Ultimately, Wang Mouqi was convicted of Intentional Homicide and sentenced to death by firing squad.
