This is a case of a "Famous Female Host" who mysteriously disappeared, a "Major Criminal Case" that was only solved thanks to a stroke of luck.
On the evening of May 21, 2002, the beloved "Famous Female Host" Wang Mouli, who had been supporting a poor student for a long time, took a taxi home after visiting him.
Little did she know that this would be the last time anyone would hear from her, as if she had vanished into thin air.
It wasn't until two years later that a shepherd stumbled upon a severed arm, bringing new developments to this unresolved missing person case.
However, no one could have anticipated that being extraordinarily beautiful could also be considered a "curse."
After the murderer was captured, he confessed, "I killed her because her graceful demeanor deeply hurt me."
What kind of person would fabricate such an absurd reason for their crime?
Date of the incident: November 14, 2004.
Location of the incident: Tori County, Tacheng Region, Xinjiang.
On this day, a 69-year-old shepherd was herding his sheep through the Gobi Desert when he suddenly noticed something "yellowish and withered" swaying in the wind not far away.
Instantly, the old man broke out in a cold sweat.
In the desolate expanse of the Gobi Desert, where not even a mouse could be seen and only stones dotted the landscape, an old man, driven by curiosity, bravely approached a peculiar "yellowish object." To his horror, he discovered something chilling.
It was a severed arm, sun-bleached and resembling a withered branch, swaying in the wind as if pointing skyward. On the ring finger of this dismembered limb, a large ring was clearly visible.
It was evident that this arm could not have come from any grave nearby. The old man quickly contacted his son, urging him to rush to the police station to report the find.
Upon receiving the report, the police promptly sent the severed arm for examination and initiated a thorough search in a radius around the discovery site. Based on past experiences with murder and dismemberment cases, they knew that other body parts were usually found nearby.
However, to their bewilderment, after three days of searching with over 300 officers scouring a 10-kilometer area, no additional evidence was uncovered. This was entirely inconsistent with typical case logic.
On November 17, 2004, the DNA results for the severed arm came back, shocking everyone: it belonged to Wang Mouli, who had been missing for over two years.
When the news broke, Wang Mouli's family fainted on the spot and had to be rushed to the hospital. The public began to discuss her disappearance anew, reigniting interest in the case that had gone cold for two and a half years.
Wang Mouli was a well-known television host at a station in Karamay, Xinjiang. As a national-level broadcaster, she was beloved by the local community for her professional skills and graceful demeanor.
In addition to her broadcasting career, she was deeply committed to charitable work, having sponsored numerous impoverished students over the years. Many children affectionately referred to her as "Mommy Love."
On May 21, 2002, feeling unwell after returning home from the hospital, Wang Mouli planned to visit one of her sponsored children at Wuerhe Farm Primary School. Despite her husband Fan's insistence that she rest, she was determined to go out. To ease her fatigue that evening, he prepared a lavish dinner.
As night fell completely, the husband began to worry when his wife still hadn't returned. He started making phone calls to inquire about her whereabouts, but all responses indicated that no one had seen Wang Mouli.
On May 21, 2002, when Yang Dong returned to Karamay City, he happened to encounter Wang Mouli near Wuerhe Farm Primary School.
When he hailed a taxi, he initially did not recognize Wang Mouli as the famous female host and drove straight towards Karamay City. Wang Mouli, feeling unwell, fell asleep shortly after getting into the car.
As they were nearing the city center, Yang Dong asked Wang Mouli where she wanted to get off but received no response. Turning around to check on her, he was taken aback by her elegant demeanor and graceful sleeping posture. In that moment, Yang Dong's twisted mind began to plot something sinister.
He changed the direction of the taxi and drove to the remote Bai Jian Tan, where he found an old hideout left by workers in the past.
At this point, Wang Mouli woke up when she felt the taxi come to a stop. Before she could react, Yang Dong abruptly pulled her out of the car. Realizing his intentions, she hurriedly claimed that she was over fifty years old and pleaded with him not to do anything reckless. However, Yang Dong disregarded her pleas and forcefully assaulted her.
Afterward, in a desperate attempt to save herself, Wang Mouli revealed her identity and promised not to report him to the police. She even offered to give him 20,000 yuan when she got home. This only fueled Yang Dong's hatred for wealthy individuals. In a fit of rage, he brutally murdered Wang Mouli.
Yang Dong had heard from an elder that the best way to prevent vengeful spirits from haunting him was to bury the body in pieces. Therefore, he dismembered Wang Mouli's corpse and buried the parts in different locations. He buried her severed arm in the Gobi Desert of Tori County.
To evade police investigation, he did not return to the city after committing the crime but instead traveled in the opposite direction to Tacheng City. There, he picked up two passengers, making them his alibi.
Little did he know that the strong winds in the Gobi Desert would gradually uncover the buried soil, revealing the severed arm. He also did not anticipate that his malicious intentions towards Wang Mouli while she slept would be exposed due to unforeseen circumstances. It can only be said that Heavenly Net is vast and wide; though it may seem loose, nothing escapes its grasp. Thus, the truth of the case came to light.
On May 8, 2006, following approval from the Xinjiang High Court, Yang Dong was sentenced to death and executed according to the law.
