Li Changjiang was taken aback. "Ah?"
Zeng Liang furrowed his brows and quietly said to Sun Man, "My lord, this jade is not to be taken lightly. This case is of great importance; if word gets out and the common people spread rumors of officials extorting jade through their power, it would be disastrous."
Sun Man nodded regretfully, unwillingly returning the jade to Li Changjiang, who quickly tucked it away in his bosom.
Zeng Liang looked at Li Changjiang and said, "What you have said must be true. master Sun is wise and powerful; he would not wrong you! You may leave now."
Li Changjiang bowed deeply several times to Sun Man, exclaiming, "You truly are a just and noble lord!" He then dashed out of the tavern.
Sun Man also lost interest and stood up, saying to Zeng Liang, "The decapitation murder case has been resolved. Tomorrow we will post an official notice and confiscate Deng Gang's assets for the court, including Immortal Gathering Pavilion and Catering to the Gambling Den, as a warning to others."
Zeng Liang nodded, secretly thinking: It sounds nice to return it to the court, but it will only end up in your pocket.
After waiting for Sun Man to leave, Zeng Liang instructed Wang Long, "Alright, send Deng Gang's body back to his family and seal up Immortal Gathering Pavilion. You can handle the rest."
Upon returning to the Yamen, Zeng Liang had just stretched and was about to take a good rest when he suddenly heard cries for help coming from the side hall.
He pushed open the door and followed the sound, only to find a bounty hunter sprawled on the ground, blood pouring from his mouth. Nearby lay a green sugar figurine, while several other bounty hunters were flailing about like ants on a hot pan, seemingly caught off guard by the sudden turn of events.
Annoyed by the ruckus, Zeng Liang shouted, "Quiet down!"
Only then did the bounty hunters realize that their captain had arrived behind them. Zeng Liang approached the fallen bounty hunter and pried open his mouth to examine him. He sighed in relief and said, "Fortunately, he hasn't damaged the vital artery on his tongue; he won't lose his life. But sadly, he won't be able to speak anymore."
Before long, the doctor arrived, busy applying medicine and bandaging wounds.
Zeng Liang stood to the side, picking up the fallen green Sugar Figurine from the ground. It seemed somewhat familiar to him, prompting him to ask the group of Bounty Hunters, "Where did this Sugar Figurine come from?"
The Bounty Hunters exchanged glances, and one stepped forward—Song Hui. He replied, "It was Zhang Biao who took it from the box of the Original Gate Merchant."
"Original Gate Merchant... Lin Kong?"
Zeng Liang's gaze returned to the Sugar Figurine. Suddenly, a glint flashed in his eyes as he poked at the sugary coating, revealing a slender blade inside that resembled a chopstick—neither a knife nor a sword, but extremely sharp.
Zeng Liang coldly asked, "Where is that Original Gate Merchant?"
Song Hui replied, "We've already let him go; he should be almost out of the city by now."
Zeng Liang's gaze turned steely as it fell upon the group of Bounty Hunters. "If you wish to seek justice for Zhang Biao, you must bring that scoundrel back to me."
Song Hui, being closest to Zhang Biao, raised his voice to rally the others. "Let's go, brothers! We must retrieve that scoundrel!"
All the Bounty Hunters followed Song Hui's lead and rushed out of Yamen towards Mou Shui City.
Meanwhile, Zeng Liang's eyes remained fixed on the blade, a smirk forming on his lips as he coldly remarked, "It seems this Blood Jade Dragon is still not red enough."
