"Well, has Xiao Tang been waiting for a long time?" Hao Chunmei asked with a smile.
"No, I just arrived," Tang Zhicheng replied, though his eyes were fixed on Ye Fangfei.
Seeing the way Tang Zhicheng looked at her, Hao Chunmei realized he was interested in Ye Fangfei. As the matchmaker, she quickly introduced them. "This is my niece, Ye Fangfei. These are my sister and brother-in-law, her parents."
Then she turned to Ye Fangfei and her parents. "This is the Xiao Tang I mentioned, Tang Zhicheng."
Tang Zhicheng quickly composed himself and greeted them respectfully, saying, "Hello, Uncle. Hello, Auntie. Hello, Comrade Ye."
"Hello, hello," Hao Chunying responded warmly. She felt that Tang Zhicheng's appearance met her expectations for a son-in-law and thought he was a good match for Ye Fangfei.
Ye Jianguo remained silent but nodded solemnly.
Ye Fangfei also nodded in return and greeted him, "Hello, Comrade Tang."
After exchanging pleasantries, Ye Fangfei found herself at a loss for words, and it was Tang Zhicheng's first time on a blind date as well; he didn't know what to do next either. The atmosphere grew a bit awkward as everyone exchanged glances.
Finally, it was Ye Jianguo who broke the silence. "So you’re Xiao Tang? How long have you been discharged from the military? Are you adjusting well to working in the transport team?"
"I was discharged two years ago. After leaving the military, I was assigned to work in the transport team. The people there are quite nice and have taken good care of me," Tang Zhicheng answered respectfully.
"I heard you were discharged due to an injury. How are you feeling now? Have you fully recovered?" Ye Jianguo asked again.
This was his main concern. Although the matchmaker had assured him that there were no lingering issues from the injury, he still wanted to ask personally to be sure.
"I'm fine now. I suffered a comminuted fracture in my leg while saving a comrade. Although I've recovered, I can't handle the high-intensity training of the military anymore. That's why I had no choice but to leave," Tang Zhicheng explained.
Ye Jianguo nodded in satisfaction. Having addressed his main concern, he fell silent again.
Next, Hao Chunying exchanged glances with Hao Chunmei and nodded slightly, indicating that her family had no objections.
Hao Chunmei understood that her sister and brother-in-law were likely pleased with this young man. Since they had no objections, it seemed that only the two young people remained to express their feelings about each other. From what she could see, Xiao Tang didn’t seem opposed either.
As for her niece Feifei, since her parents had no objections, what could she possibly say? Aunt Hao naturally thought so.
However, Aunt Hao was somewhat right; up to this point, Ye Fangfei was quite satisfied with Tang Zhicheng.
"Well, Feifei, your mom and I have some matters to attend to, so we’ll be heading out first," Aunt Hao said, looking for an excuse to create an opportunity for the two young people to be alone together.
"Yes, you young folks should go explore a bit. We’ll take our leave now."
"Xiao Tang, don’t go anywhere for lunch; come over to our place to eat." Gao Chunying looked at Tang Zhicheng with the fondness of a mother-in-law admiring her son-in-law; the more she looked, the more she liked him.
"Okay, I’ll definitely come." Xiao Tang’s response was a clear indication of his satisfaction with the blind date. After all, if he weren’t pleased, he wouldn’t agree to visit the other party’s home for a meal.
Gao Chunying was also pleased with the results of her little test. "We’ll go prepare lunch now; you two take your time and don’t rush." With that, Gao Chunying happily took her sister and husband and headed home.
This left Ye Fangfei and Tang Zhicheng staring at each other in silence.
Despite being a grown man, it was Tang Zhicheng's first blind date, and he had never interacted alone with a young woman before. So he truly didn’t know what to say in this unfamiliar situation.
