Some people have waited for over a decade. Now that there is an opportunity, one must seize it.
Regarding Tang Zhicheng's statement, Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying were quite satisfied. They had only agreed to let their daughter go on a blind date with Tang Zhicheng after hearing from the eldest brother-in-law that their team would soon be allocated housing. Otherwise, as someone from the countryside with no connections or property in this area, even if he were exceptionally talented, they wouldn't have readily agreed.
"This plan is feasible, but we are reasonable people. Since we've agreed to let you register first, we won't make things difficult for your future wife. Once the house is allocated, we will arrange the wedding," Ye Jianguo said thoughtfully.
Hearing his father-in-law's stance, Tang Zhicheng felt delighted. "I will listen to Uncle," he quickly replied.
Hao Chunying exchanged a glance with her sister-in-law, signaling her to discuss the dowry. This was something that should typically be addressed by the matchmaker; it was not appropriate for them as the bride's family to bring it up directly. Aunt Hao understood this principle well, and by bringing up the dowry herself, she could create some buffer between them.
"Xiao Tang, how does this sound for the dowry? For the engagement gift, you can buy Feifei a watch and also get her a sewing machine. The dowry amount will be sixty-six, for good luck. But don't worry; all of it will be given to Feifei. Her parents have also said they will provide her with a car as part of her dowry," Aunt Hao said, and both she and Hao Chunying agreed on this.
Tang Zhicheng had no objections; it was only right for the Ye family to keep the dowry. Moreover, they had promised that Feifei could take it all back intact. "However, if the dowry is not taken back, it can stay with Uncle and Auntie," he added smoothly.
Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying found his words very pleasing and felt even happier inside.
"We will ensure that all the dowry goes back with Feifei. We are marrying off our daughter, not selling her. She is our only daughter, raised like a precious gem since childhood. Now that she has grown up and is about to marry, we want her to leave in style."
"We have not only prepared a car for her but also set aside sixty-six as the dowry amount; we will match that with another sixty-six from our savings. We have already prepared the fabric and cotton for bedding and will send along two sets," Hao Chunying said, her eyes becoming moist as she spoke.
Ye Fangfei was stunned from the moment they began to speak. What was going on? She had merely gone on a blind date and thought the man was decent enough to get to know better. How had it escalated to discussing marriage?
In just a short while, not only had they settled on the betrothal gifts, but they had also discussed the dowry. Wait a minute, I’m getting married? Why isn’t anyone asking for my opinion? Ye Fangfei finally found her voice.
However, neither Ye Jianguo nor Hao Chunying seemed inclined to pay her any mind. This was an adult matter; where did she think she had the right to interject?
"Make sure to spend some quality time with Xiao Tang over these next few days. In a couple of days, you’ll be picking up the marriage certificate," Ye Jianguo instructed. "Didn’t you hear your uncle say that their team is about to divide the housing? If you don’t take this opportunity to secure a place, will you really want to rent when you get married?"
Ye Jianguo shot her a pointed look.
"But..." She hesitated, wanting to voice her thoughts, but before she could finish, Hao Chunying interrupted her. "What other opinions do you have?"
Ye Fangfei choked on her words. What opinions could she possibly have? Considering the importance of housing in this day and age, she truly couldn’t afford to have any. It wasn’t that she didn’t have opinions; it was that she couldn’t afford them.
