Tang Zhi pulled Ye Fangfei's hand, bringing her closer as he introduced her to his family. "Father, Mother, Elder Brother, Second Brother, this is my wife, Ye Fangfei."
"Hello, Father and Mother, Elder Brother and Second Brother. I am Ye Fangfei. You can call me Xiao Ye or Feifei," she greeted them with confidence.
"Ah, Feifei, is it? What a lovely girl," Tang Laotai said, smiling broadly at Ye Fangfei, who was dressed in a beautiful dress.
Tang Laohan nodded at the elegant and pretty Ye Fangfei. She looked like someone cultured from the city, well-suited for his son.
Ye Fangfei stepped forward and linked her arm with Tang Laotai's as they walked outside. "Mother, let’s hurry. The house is all tidied up. After we wash up and rest for a bit, my parents are treating you to dinner tonight."
At her sudden gesture of affection, Tang Laotai felt a bit stiff; she had never had anyone hold her hand like this at her age.
Seeing his mother being led away by Ye Fangfei, Tang Zhi called out to Tang Laohan to join them. "Father, let’s go too."
Once they were outside the train station, Tang Zhi led them to a bus that would take them home.
"Father, Mother, Elder Brother, Second Brother, come in quickly! This is my new place," Tang Zhi said as he opened the door for them to enter the yard.
"This... this is too cramped! This yard is smaller than our pigsty," Tang Zhiwen blurted out as he looked at the small courtyard.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Tang Laotai shot him a glare.
Realizing he had misspoken, Tang Zhiwen shrank back and fell silent.
Tang Zhi led everyone into the house. "Father and Mother, you will stay in this room. The room next door is where Feifei and I will be; it wouldn’t be appropriate for you to stay there. Elder Brother and Second Brother will have to make do with sleeping on the floor in the living room."
"It’s fine, it’s fine. Sleeping on the floor is perfectly okay," Tang Zhiwu and Tang Zhiwen said with smiles.
"Just being able to visit Beijing is enough; I wouldn’t mind sleeping on the street if it came to that."
"What’s there to complain about? The floor here doesn’t even have a speck of dirt on it. It’s cleaner than their clothes," Tang Laotai remarked somewhat disdainfully at her two sons.
Inside the house, Tang Zhi had smoothed the cement floor and mopped it several times.
In Tang Laotai's eyes, this floor was cleaner than some of the beds in less tidy homes.
With their living arrangements settled, Tang Laohan and the others didn’t care about their travel fatigue and began exploring the house.
Ye Fangfei went to prepare dinner for that evening while seeing them home.
Now, only their family was at home.
"Third Brother, all the things in this house are new, right? This furniture looks great and impressive." The first thing Tang Zhiwen noticed was the new furniture in the room.
The furniture was made by a carpenter that Ye Jianguo had connections with, using high-quality pine wood.
In the living room, there was a sofa, a coffee table, and a five-drawer cabinet. In Tang Zhi and Ye Fangfei's bedroom, there were two wardrobes, a cabinet, and a desk. In the small room partitioned off behind the living room, there was a bed, a standing cabinet, and another five-drawer chest.
The entire set of new furniture exuded the fresh scent of wood, looking both tidy and impressive.
"This was arranged by my father-in-law; it's part of Feifei's dowry," Tang Zhi said.
"Wow, your father-in-law really went all out! He even provided a full set of furniture as a dowry?"
"Third Brother, you’re so lucky! Your wife is beautiful and cultured, and your father-in-law is so generous." Tang Zhiwen said enviously.
Tang Zhi straightened his chest secretly; he felt that his father-in-law was indeed very good to him. Being able to become a son-in-law of the Ye family was truly a blessing he had earned from his previous life.
