Anna, Jack, and Lisa continued to move forward on a stormy night, with a chill in the air. In the midst of the storm, they found an abandoned church and decided to take shelter there temporarily. The church's spire looked particularly eerie in the lightning, as if some unknown force was brewing within.
"We'll rest here for a while, the weather outside is too severe," Jack said, as he pushed open a dilapidated wooden door and led Anna and Lisa into the church.
The interior of the church was dim, with the air filled with dust and mildew. Anna lit a candle, and the faint flame cast their shadows on the wall. They found some worn-out benches and decided to spend the night here.
"Although it's run-down here, at least it can provide shelter from the wind and rain," Anna comforted, casting a gentle smile at the weary Lisa.
Just as they were preparing to rest, they suddenly heard a strange sound. The sound was deep and peculiar, as if some creature was emitting a low roar from deep underground. Anna's heart tightened, immediately becoming alert.
"Did you hear that?" Jack asked in a low voice, gripping the iron rod in his hand, looking tense.
"Yes, that sound is very unusual," Anna replied, standing up and trying to locate the source of the sound.
Three people followed the direction of the sound and arrived at the entrance to the basement of the church. The wooden door here was already rotten, and it opened with a gentle push. Anna lit a torch and carefully walked down the stairs.
The air in the basement was even colder, and the walls were covered with moss. Anna's torch illuminated a small area, and they saw some ancient altars and damaged holy images, but the most striking thing was a huge pit in the center of the basement.
"What place is this?" Lisa asked nervously, following closely behind Anna.
"It looks like some kind of sacrificial site," Jack replied, frowning and clearly feeling uneasy.
As they observed the pit, suddenly, a huge monster leaped out of it. Its body was covered in thick scales, its eyes shimmering with a crimson light, and its mouth emitting a deep roar. The monster seemed to have emerged from the nightmare of the Cthulhu myth, its form completely different from that of a human, resembling some ancient and evil entity.
"Oh my, what is this?" Lisa asked in horror, her voice trembling.
"Whatever it is, we must deal with it," Anna said calmly. She knew they had to stay composed now, or they would both become prey to this monster.
Jack and Lisa are preparing to battle, while Anna observes the monster's movements, trying to find its weakness. The monster moves swiftly and fiercely, each attack carrying tremendous force. Anna quickly dodges to the side, her dagger grazing the monster's scales, but she finds it does not cause any effective damage.
"Its scales are too hard to pierce," Anna says, feeling a wave of helplessness, but she knows she cannot give up.
"Try the eyes!" Jack shouted as he swung his iron rod, trying to attract the monster's attention.
Anna nodded and sprang into action. She took aim at the monster's eyes and with all her might, thrust her dagger into its left eye. The monster let out a painful roar, clearly suffering a severe blow. Anna seized the opportunity and once again stabbed at its right eye.
The monster finally fell, its huge body crashing heavily to the ground. Anna stood panting next to its corpse, the dagger in her hand still dripping with blood. She looked at her bloodstained hands, feeling a surge of complex emotions once again.
"Anna, you're amazing!" Lisa exclaimed excitedly, her eyes filled with admiration.
Anna did not answer, she knew it was not the time to relax. They had to keep moving forward and find a truly safe place.
Four
The three of them left the church and continued to move forward in the wind and rain. They walked down a dilapidated street and found a small supermarket, deciding to go in and look for some supplies. The supermarket was empty, with only some scattered food and drinks left on the shelves.
"Quick, grab some food and water, we need to leave as soon as possible," Jack said as he picked up a backpack and started packing food and water.
Anna and Lisa also moved quickly, trying to take as many essentials as possible. Just as they were getting ready to leave, they suddenly heard footsteps.
"Someone's here!" Anna said alertly.
A few figures appeared at the entrance of the supermarket, their eyes gleaming with greed, clearly also there to find food. But when they saw Anna and the other two, there was a hint of hostility in their eyes.
"This is our territory, get out!" said the leader of the group fiercely, holding an iron rod in his hand, clearly not someone to be trifled with.
Jack stood in front of Anna and Lisa, calmly saying, "We don't want trouble, we just came to get some supplies and then we'll leave."
The man sneered coldly, "You're leaving? Leave your things and then get lost!"
Anna felt a surge of anger, but she knew it wasn't the time to act impulsively. She tugged at Jack's sleeve, signaling for him to stay calm.
"Okay, let's go," Jack said helplessly. He put down his backpack and prepared to leave, holding onto Anna and Lisa.
At the moment they turned around, the man suddenly swung an iron rod towards the back of Jack's head. Jack reacted quickly, dodging to the side, but still got grazed on the shoulder, causing him to step back in pain.
"Run fast!" Anna shouted, leading Lisa and Jack to quickly rush out of the supermarket.
They ran onto the street, hearing the shouts of the group of people behind them, but no one caught up. Anna breathed a sigh of relief and stopped to catch her breath with Jack.
"Are you okay?" she asked with concern.
Jack gritted his teeth and nodded, "I'm fine, just a scratch. We need to leave here quickly."
Three people continued to move forward and finally found a relatively safe place - an abandoned factory. Although it was dilapidated, at least there was no trace of zombies for the time being.
"We'll rest here for a while and then figure out our next move," Jack said, leaning against the wall and holding his injured shoulder.
Anna and Lisa nodded, and they found some old fabric and cardboard to lay on the ground, barely making a makeshift bed.
"We need to find a safer place, this isn't a long-term solution," Anna said, looking at Jack with determination.
Jack nodded, "Yes, we must find a place to hide for the long term, and then figure out a way to contact the outside world for help."
Anna knew that this was just the beginning, and there were more dangers and challenges ahead. She clenched her fists and silently vowed to persevere no matter how difficult or dangerous it may be, to protect herself and her companions, and find a truly safe place.
