"I'm sorry I couldn't help much with your wedding," Yi Xiaoli said, taking out a hundred yuan. "This is for you from me and your brother. Just buy whatever you like."
"No need for that, Sister-in-law. I've already prepared everything," Ye Fangfei replied, surprised by the amount Yi Xiaoli had presented.
"Come on, just take it. It's a small token from your brother and me. You should accept it," Yi Xiaoli insisted.
It pained Yi Xiaoli to hand over a hundred yuan; after all, it represented two months' worth of wages for her and her husband. But it was only natural for a brother to want to give his sister more, especially since she was the only sibling he had.
Since she married into the family, her in-laws had been kind, and her sister-in-law had not been difficult. Her husband treated her well and often supported her family without complaint.
Now that his only sister was getting married, it would be unreasonable for her to create conflict over money. Not only would Ye Zijun hold it against her, but their in-laws would also disapprove. They were hoping Ye Fangfei would move in after marriage, so it was crucial not to upset them.
Moreover, Yi Xiaoli had her own concerns. As the eldest child in her family with two younger brothers still in school, she felt the weight of responsibility. Their mother was unwell and unable to work, meaning their father's income would have to support the entire family moving forward. Yet, when her family faced difficulties, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing. She thought that if she didn't oppose giving money for Ye Fangfei's wedding, then perhaps when her own family needed help later on, Ye Zijun might turn a blind eye.
That was why she willingly offered the money to Ye Fangfei. Seeing Yi Xiaoli's genuine desire to give and recognizing that as a sister-in-law, it was customary for her brother and sister-in-law to contribute more than others, Ye Fangfei graciously accepted the gift without hesitation.
"By the way, Sister-in-law, where are my brother and Tingting?" Ye Fangfei wondered why her elder brother and nephew hadn't arrived.
"They're here, but as soon as they walked in, Dad called them to prepare for the guests tomorrow. Tingting wanted to join in on the excitement, so he went along too," Yi Xiaoli explained.
Ye Fangfei nodded. There would be many people coming to send off the bride tomorrow, so they couldn't afford to be short on preparations.
After exchanging a few more casual words with Yi Xiaoli, Hao Chunying called for her to help out.
With the wedding just a day away, the whole family was busy and had no time to spare.
By evening, Aunt Hao and Yi Xiaoli had finished helping and left. Ye Fangfei went to her room to get some rest.
At that moment, Hao Chunying came to her door and knocked. "Feifei, are you going to sleep?"
"Mom, why aren't you asleep yet?" Ye Fangfei opened the door and let Hao Chunying in.
"I brought you this," Hao Chunying said as she pulled out a bundle of cash.
"This two hundred yuan is your pocket money from Mom. Keep it for yourself, but don't tell Xiao Tang."
"It's not that I want to stir up trouble between you two; it's just that a woman should always have her own means. Don't put all your trust in a man," Hao Chunying said earnestly.
Ye Fangfei looked at the cash in her hand, feeling both speechless and touched. However, her family had already spent quite a bit on her wedding, and she simply couldn't accept this money.
