"Mom, I can't take this money. You've already spent quite a bit on my wedding."
Besides, Tang Zhicheng has given me his savings book, so I have money. Ye Fangfei tried to hand the money back to Hao Chunying.
"What Xiao Tang gave you is different; this is my private money for you," Hao Chunying insisted, pushing the money back.
"Mom." Ye Fangfei wanted to say something more but was interrupted by Hao Chunying.
"Enough, if I say it's for you, then it's for you. You'll be living with Xiao Tang from now on, so don't throw a tantrum."
"But if he bullies you, don't just endure it. Come back and tell us; we'll stand up for you," Hao Chunying said, reluctantly stroking her daughter's hand.
Ye Fangfei felt no sorrow about leaving home. After all, she wasn't the main character in this story, and her feelings for her family weren't deep. In fact, she was looking forward to leaving home and distancing herself from familiar family and neighbors. This way, she wouldn't have to worry about others discovering the differences between her and the main character.
Her quick agreement to marry Tang Zhicheng was partly influenced by this desire.
"Mom, don't be sad. When Tang Zhicheng is out on business, I'll come back to stay," Ye Fangfei reassured her.
Hao Chunying's heart stirred; she hadn't told Ye Fangfei that after the wedding, Zi Jun and the others would be moving back in. While it was a good thing that Zi Jun was returning, it also meant that her daughter would have no room to stay when she came back.
Would Ye Fangfei have any thoughts about that?
Forget it; she would tell her later. Tomorrow is the big day; there’s no need to bring up anything that might upset her now.
"Alright, you need to get some rest since we have an early start tomorrow," Hao Chunying said before leaving the room.
Ye Fangfei didn't think much of it; after a busy day, she climbed into bed and fell asleep.
Early the next morning, Hao Chunying woke Ye Fangfei from her sleep.
Auntie and Yi Xiaoli had already arrived.
"Cousin! Wake up! Uncle is coming soon!" Ye Ting shouted as he entered with Grandma.
"Got it." Ye Fangfei mumbled with her eyes closed, turned over, and fell back asleep.
Hao Chunying stepped forward and abruptly pulled back the covers. "What time is it? Why aren't you up yet? Your aunt and the others are already here. Hurry up!"
Ye Fangfei was truly exhausted. After Hao Chunying returned home yesterday, she had tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. She never expected that at thirty years old in the modern world, she still hadn't gotten married. Yet, in just over a month of being in this era, she had already tied the knot.
Her mind was a jumble of thoughts, and by the time she finally drifted off, it was well past midnight. She had barely slept for a few hours when Hao Chunying came to wake her.
"Mom, I’ll get up now. You all go ahead," Ye Fangfei said, rubbing her eyes as she sat up.
"Get moving! The relatives will be arriving soon," Hao Chunying reminded her before stepping out to attend to other matters.
Sitting on the edge of the bed for a moment, Ye Fangfei finally decided to get up. As she carried a basin outside to wash up, she noticed that Uncle Ye, Aunt Ye, Grandpa Ye, and Grandma Ye were already there. However, she didn’t see her cousins from Uncle Ye's family.
After greeting everyone, she asked Aunt Ye, "Why haven't my cousins come?"
"Your cousin is eating at home before coming over. Fanghua will be here shortly; she's getting ready at home," Aunt Ye replied.
In their customs, on the morning of the wedding day, the groom's party would eat dumplings at the bride's family home. However, with food supplies being limited these days, if too many people came over, it could overwhelm the family sending off their daughter.
