"Your father knows that you can come back whenever you want. As long as I'm here, this will always be your home," Ye Jianguo said.
"Mm." Ye Fangfei's eyes turned red again.
"Alright, you all should hurry and leave. Don't miss the time," Ye Jianguo urged, waving his hand to send them off, afraid he might embarrass himself by crying in public.
"Go on, and remember to come back whenever you have time," Hao Chunying said, trying to hold back her tears.
"Mom and Dad, don't worry. I will take good care of Feifei," Tang Zhi assured them.
Hao Chunying felt satisfied with her son-in-law's promise at this moment.
After exchanging a few more words, they were hurried out the door by Ye Jianguo.
Tang Zhi carefully helped Ye Fangfei onto the back seat of the bicycle.
Turning to Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying at the door, he said, "Mom and Dad, we're leaving now."
He then rode off with the bicycle, followed by a group of people who came to escort them.
Those who had bicycles rode them, while those who didn't were carried by those who did.
The lively group made their way to Yushu Hutong.
At this time, Tang Zhi's family had already put up large red double happiness characters. However, since they didn't have any relatives or friends there, it couldn't compare to the lively atmosphere of the Ye family.
Nonetheless, the banquet was arranged at the transportation company's cafeteria. Coming to their house was merely a formality; whether it was lively or not didn't really matter.
When Ye Fangfei and the others arrived at Tang Zhi's home, Grandma Tang had already prepared candies and sunflower seeds to welcome them.
They didn't stay long at home; after a brief visit and placing Ye Fangfei's dowry inside, they set off for the transportation company's cafeteria.
The cafeteria was particularly lively that day, with all of Tang Zhi's coworkers who weren't out on deliveries present.
Uncle Fang had also arrived early.
Since Tang Zhi and his father weren't familiar with the place and worried they might not manage well on their own, Tang Zhi asked Uncle Fang to come help oversee things.
After arriving with Ye Fangfei, they held a small ceremony—bowing three times before a portrait of the leader. Following that, Uncle Fang, representing the male side's leadership and the female side's elders as well as being the matchmaker, said a few words.
Then he announced that the banquet was open.
Tang Zhi had put a lot of thought into the menu for that day.
Without purchasing meat, Tang Zhi had someone buy two pieces of pig offal, which the skilled chef braised. This added a few more dishes to the table; while they couldn't compare to braised pork, they were still hearty.
Tang Zhi also bought a few chickens from the countryside and stewed them with the mushrooms brought by Old Man Tang and his companions. There was a large bowl of chicken stew with mushrooms on the table, along with a whole fish, which Tang Zhi had also arranged to buy.
Although meat was hard to come by, it wasn't impossible to find. Tang Zhi had saved up meat coupons to buy two pounds, but that was definitely not enough for braised pork. So he asked the chef to prepare several stir-fried dishes: green beans with pork, Mu Shu pork, and zucchini stir-fried with eggs. He also bought cucumbers and tomatoes, making a cucumber salad and a tomato salad with sugar.
The table was filled with both meat and vegetables, satisfying everyone who attended the wedding banquet. They all felt that their gifts were too generous; being able to enjoy such a variety of dishes felt like a great return on their contributions.
After the feast, Tang Zhi sent everyone off and returned home with Ye Fangfei and Old Man Tang. Their home was messy; although there weren't many guests, there were still sunflower seed shells scattered everywhere.
Ye Fangfei didn't take a break upon returning; instead, she began tidying up the dowry. In other places, it might not be her responsibility, but she insisted on organizing the new house herself.
Tang Zhi wanted to help but was shooed away by Ye Fangfei. "Why don't you go outside and tidy up the living room and yard? I can handle this myself," she said, wanting him out of her way.
