"Dear wife, you must try this! Mother’s sweet and sour pork is unmatched. You can’t find such authentic sweet and sour pork in Beijing," Tang Zhi said as he served Ye Fangfei two pieces of the dish, giving her a knowing glance.
Ye Fangfei immediately understood and took a bite of the sweet and sour pork. With a smile, she exclaimed, "It’s so delicious! Mother, your cooking is amazing!" She gave a thumbs-up before taking another bite of the noodles. "These noodles are so chewy! How did you make them? You must teach me sometime."
Tang Zhi had long praised his mother’s cooking, claiming it was better than that of the chefs at state-run restaurants. "We’ve been looking forward to your visit, Mother. You must stay for a few more days and teach me how to cook. That way, I can make meals for Zhi too, so he doesn’t keep complaining about wanting to eat your cooking."
With these words, Ye Fangfei not only flattered Old Lady Tang but also mentioned how much Tang Zhi missed her cooking. Moreover, she expressed her desire to learn from Old Lady Tang so she could prepare meals for Tang Zhi in the future.
For elderly parents, nothing is more heartwarming than knowing their children care about them and think of them often. Old Lady Tang was no exception. Hearing her daughter-in-law say that her son constantly mentioned wanting to eat her cooking brought her immense joy.
Furthermore, Ye Fangfei wanted to learn how to cook so she could prepare meals for her son-in-law. This thought resonated deeply with Old Lady Tang. This skill has been passed down through generations; my ancestors were once chefs in big restaurants. In our village, during celebrations or funerals, families would always seek me out to cook."
From a young age, Third Brother had always loved the dishes I made, especially this pot of fried meat. He has been fond of it since childhood.
"If you want to learn, just say the word and I'll teach you," Grandma Tang said cheerfully.
"Mom, we agreed that you would teach me well and not hold anything back," Ye Fangfei replied.
"No holding back, no holding back at all. I would love to teach you everything I know," Grandma Tang insisted, eager to share all her culinary secrets.
"I want to eat two bowls! Mom's cooking is just too delicious," Ye Fangfei said to Tang Zhi.
Before Tang Zhi could respond, Grandma Tang laughed and said, "Eat up! If there aren't enough noodles, I'll make more."
Tang Zhi watched as Ye Fangfei charmed Grandma Tang into a state of bliss, and he winked at her, signaling that she was doing great.
Ye Fangfei playfully glared at him, not considering who she was really doing this for. If it weren't for the fact that she didn't want to put him in a difficult position, would she really need to sweet-talk Grandma Tang?
Tang Zhi found her antics amusing and smiled as he served her a piece of fried meat. "Here, my dear wife, eat more."
At this point, Grandma Tang didn't mention how well Tang Zhi treated Ye Fangfei; instead, she chimed in, "That's right! If it's delicious, then eat more. Third Brother, buy some more meat tomorrow; I'll cook for you again."
Tang Zhiwen and Tang Zhiwu watched the couple making Grandma Tang smile from ear to ear.
In their hearts, they couldn't help but think: isn't it true that families who get along well share a home? Third Brother and his wife truly were a match made in heaven.
