They couldn't help but feel relieved that the third brother and his family didn't live in their hometown. If they did, their parents would hardly acknowledge their existence.
After finishing the meal, Ye Fangfei intended to wash the dishes, but was stopped by Old Lady Tang.
"Feifei, put that down. You don't need to wash the dishes," she said.
"Mom, you've worked hard cooking. Let me wash the dishes," Ye Fangfei replied.
"No way! How can a new bride wash dishes? You should rest," Old Lady Tang insisted, taking the dishes from Ye Fangfei's hands.
Then she turned to Tang Zhicheng and said, "Third son, take your wife to your room. You don’t need to worry about this; your elder brothers are here too."
Since Old Lady Tang had said so, Ye Fangfei didn't insist any further. She knew very well that a new bride wasn't expected to do any chores. She had only pretended to offer help; if Old Lady Tang hadn't intervened, she would have let Tang Zhicheng handle it.
Moreover, Old Lady Tang and the others would only stay for a few days at most, and she didn't want to create any discord over something trivial.
"Alright, Mom, you've worked hard. We'll head to our room now," Tang Zhicheng said as he pulled Ye Fangfei away.
In their room, Tang Zhicheng was like a diligent little bee. He first boiled water for Ye Fangfei to take a bath. While she was bathing, he quickly took a shower himself.
Once Ye Fangfei finished her bath, he helped her dry her hair. Meanwhile, he washed and hung up the dirty clothes they had changed out of.
Then he returned to the room and watched as Ye Fangfei dried her hair. Even though she considered herself fairly composed, she felt her face gradually heat up under his gaze. "What are you looking at? Don't stare!" she exclaimed.
As soon as she said that, Tang Zhicheng took it as an invitation to step closer and took the towel from her hands.
While drying her hair, he said with a smile, "I’m just admiring my wife. You look so beautiful."
He continued, "What kind of good deeds did I do in my past life to deserve such a wonderful wife?"
As he spoke, he began to get a little more intimate, gently touching Ye Fangfei's hair until he felt it was dry enough. Then he embraced her and kissed her softly.
In the afternoon, he had been left wanting more, but was interrupted by Old Lady Tang. Now, in the room, it was just the two of them, and he was determined to make up for it. After all, tonight was their wedding night, and he had no intention of letting Ye Fangfei slip away easily.
They embraced and kissed for a while, and before they knew it, they had both collapsed onto the bed. Tang Zhicheng was not satisfied with just kissing; his hand quietly slipped under Ye Fangfei's clothing.
"Wait, wait! Close the curtains first," Ye Fangfei urged, trying to stop Tang Zhicheng from proceeding further.
"It's already dark outside; no one can see," Tang Zhicheng replied, unwilling to let her go. He tried to coax her.
"That doesn't matter! Just pull the curtains closed quickly, and lock the door too!" Ye Fangfei insisted, not allowing him to continue.
With no other choice, Tang Zhicheng got up to draw the curtains. Once he returned to her side, he wrapped his arms around Ye Fangfei again.
"The door isn't locked yet," she reminded him.
"I locked it long ago. Come on now, today is our wedding night," Tang Zhicheng said softly, his voice gradually fading as a cry of pain escaped Ye Fangfei's lips.
The night was still young.
