The two of them were married, and with no one else around at home, their affectionate interactions gradually took on a different flavor. By the time they sat down at the table, an hour had already passed. They had planned to deliver wedding candies at noon, but there was no time; they would have to wait until after work in the afternoon.
The meal had long since cooled down, so Tang Zhicheng heated it up again, and only then did they have their lunch. After finishing their meal, the couple went to the bank to deposit some money. Over the past few days, they had received a bit more money; however, Tang Laotai had given her fifty, and Tang Zhicheng still had a few tens in hand. Therefore, Ye Fangfei directly deposited five hundred yuan into her savings account.
There were still about ten days until Tang Zhicheng received his salary, and with a few tens left in hand, they were doing fine. After depositing the money, Tang Zhicheng suggested they go to the department store to buy something for his in-laws. Today was originally supposed to be the day for visiting her family, but since Tang Laohan and the others were leaving today, Tang Zhicheng had made a special trip yesterday to inform Ye Jianguo that they would change the visit to tomorrow.
“Wife, let’s buy something for Mom and Dad,” he said. “Tomorrow when we visit, we can get Dad some cigarettes and liquor, buy Mom a silk scarf, and get some snacks for Brother and Sister-in-law as well as Ye Ting. You’ve been so considerate towards my parents.” Tang Zhicheng felt he should also treat his in-laws better.
“Mutual respect is important; relationships are reciprocal,” he thought. Ye Fangfei considered what they needed at home and decided that buying two bottles of liquor for her dad and some snacks would be sufficient. “Two bottles of liquor for Dad and some rice cakes and egg cakes will do. We still have two cans at home; we can bring those tomorrow. As for my mom, I don’t think she needs anything right now. I’ll make her some clothes when I have time,” Ye Fangfei said.
“I’ll follow your lead,” Tang Zhicheng replied. Since it was a visit to Ye Fangfei’s family, he completely let her take charge of the decisions. All the money was in Ye Fangfei's hands; he had no objections about whatever they decided to buy.
After a quiet night, early the next morning, Tang Zhicheng rode his bike back to his in-laws' house with the prepared items. The Liuye Hutong where the Ye family lived was bustling with activity today; Ye Zijun and the others had moved back yesterday.
Ye Ting ran around the yard, claiming to help but actually causing mischief.
"Ting Ting, go check at the door to see if your aunt has arrived. Don't cause trouble here," Hao Chunying said to her grandson.
"Will my aunt buy me candy?" Ye Ting asked, looking up with hopeful eyes.
"Yes, your aunt loves you the most," Hao Chunying replied, gently patting her grandson's head.
"Okay, I'll wait for her at the door," Ye Ting said before dashing outside.
Hao Chunying understood that her grandson was closer to his maternal grandmother than to them. It was inevitable; when her grandson was born, she had not yet retired and couldn't take care of him. Fortunately, his grandmother was not working and had raised him since he was little. Of course, they had paid for the care each month.
That old saying was indeed true: a child becomes close to whoever takes care of them. Ye Ting clearly felt more attached to his maternal family than to hers.
This was also why Hao Chunying agreed to let her son and his family move back in.
As she pondered these thoughts, Ye Ting rushed back in, shouting, "Grandma, Aunt is back! Aunt is back!"
"Where is she?" Hao Chunying quickly set aside what she was doing and followed her grandson outside to see.
"Mom, we’re back!"
