After all, Tang Zhicheng was the son-in-law. On his first visit to his in-laws' house after getting married, he encountered such a situation. Ye Fangfei felt a bit annoyed with Hao Chunying and Yi Xiaoli for not considering the occasion.
However, it wasn't appropriate for her to say anything now; she could only brush it off and move on. "Let's go inside. Where are my dad and brother?"
"Your dad went to work, and you've already taken several days off since your wedding. If you take more time off, the factory might have something to say about it. But your brother is at home; let him keep Zhicheng company," Hao Chunying explained.
"Okay," Ye Fangfei replied.
Inside, Ye Zijun heard the commotion and came out to greet them. "You're here, brother-in-law!" Ye Zijun stepped forward to help carry things, muttering, "Why did you buy so much stuff when you came back? These canned goods are quite expensive."
"Let this one slide, but don’t buy so much next time. You don’t have a job, and even if Zhicheng earns a lot, he can’t afford to spend like this. Besides, you’ll need to raise children in the future," Ye Zijun rambled on.
Ye Fangfei listened obediently; she knew her brother was looking out for her.
"You're worse than Dad when it comes to nagging! Hurry up and take Zhicheng into the living room. Also, brew a pot of tea for your dad. There are sunflower seeds and sugar cubes in the drawer of the cabinet; bring those out too," Hao Chunying said, looking at her son who was acting like an old woman at such a young age.
Ye Fangfei chuckled. "Mom, my brother is just concerned about me."
Then she took out a piece of egg cake she had brought and handed it to Ye Tingting. "Are you hungry? Have a piece of egg cake first; we can have candy later."
"Look! This bag of Big Rabbit candy is all yours!"
"Yay! Yay! I want Big Rabbit milk candy! Auntie, are all these for me?" Ye Tingting exclaimed joyfully as he looked at the large bag of candy.
"Yes, they're all for you. But you can't eat too many; only two pieces a day. The rest will be saved by Grandma for you, okay?" Ye Fangfei said.
Little Ye Tingting frowned in contemplation for a moment before finally making a big decision. "Alright then! But Grandma, remember that this is from Auntie! You have to hide it for me and give me two pieces every day. Don’t forget!"
Everyone looked at his serious little face and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! You've cracked me up! You little rascal, you’re quite clever," Ye Fangfei said with a smile.
"Not much of a person, but plenty of wits. Are you going to eat all the treats your aunt bought just for you?"
"Tingting, are you going to share your big rabbit candy with Grandma?" Hao Chunying also laughed until tears streamed down her face.
With this little interruption from Ye Ting, the awkward atmosphere finally eased.
After joking around for a while, Hao Chunying got up again, preparing to head to the kitchen to cook.
"Zijun, keep Zhicheng company with some water and snacks. We'll go cook in the kitchen."
Since Hao Chunying was going to cook, Yi Xiaoli naturally had to follow her.
The kitchen was small and couldn't accommodate too many people.
Ye Fangfei wanted to go to her room to tidy up her things. There were some medicines she needed to take back with her.
"Mom, you and Sister-in-law go to the kitchen. I'm going back to my room to clean up," Ye Fangfei said as she stood up and headed towards her room.
It was then that Hao Chunying remembered she hadn't told her daughter that her son’s family had moved back.
