"You all have come! The clothes are ready, they're over there," said Ye Fangfei, as she welcomed her friends.
Today was the day she had arranged with Yao Feixue to pick up the clothes. Sure enough, they arrived right after work in the afternoon.
"This is mine! Let me try it on," Liu Shaoli exclaimed, holding up her light blue cotton shirt.
"This is mine!" another girl chimed in.
One by one, they picked up their clothes, some comparing them on their bodies while others immediately tried them on.
Ye Fangfei had put a lot of effort into making these outfits. Each piece had a little modification; for instance, Liu Shaoli's shirt featured puff sleeves, and the cuffs were pressed with several delicate pleats using an iron.
When Liu Shaoli put it on, she looked both chic and adorable.
Seeing this, Yao Feixue shouted for Ye Fangfei to make her one just like it.
All the girls were very satisfied with Ye Fangfei's craftsmanship. As they were leaving, they promised to bring her food coupons as payment.
Ye Fangfei earned two pounds of food coupons for each outfit she made, and since she had completed four pieces, her total income was eight pounds of food coupons.
After sending off her coworkers, Yao Feixue, who had no home to go to, decided to follow Ye Fangfei.
Ye Fangfei was puzzled and asked her, "Is there something else you need?"
Yao Feixue wanted to get closer to Ye Fangfei. Over the past few days, she had subtly inquired about her life and learned that Ye Fangfei's partner was a truck driver.
Being a truck driver was quite desirable; it was one of the eight prestigious jobs. Since drivers traveled frequently across the country, they often had access to goods that were hard to find locally.
This was also why Yao Feixue wanted to befriend Ye Fangfei. She hoped that once they became closer, she could ask Tang Zhicheng to help her bring back some good things from the big city.
"I heard you’re looking for a job?" Yao Feixue said casually, not paying much attention to Ye Fangfei's reaction.
"How did you know?" Ye Fangfei was surprised that this was what Yao Feixue wanted to talk about.
"It was Aunt Zhao and the others who mentioned it; I overheard them," Yao Feixue replied.
Only then did Ye Fangfei remember that she had mentioned it in passing to Aunt Zhao and the others.
There was nothing to hide; she didn’t have a job, and wanting to find one was perfectly normal.
"Well, I do want to find a job, but I can't handle hard labor in the factory. I'm looking for something in an office," Ye Fangfei said.
Yao Feixue knew it would be like this. With Ye Fangfei's high school diploma, there was no way she could be without a job.
"I have a job opportunity for you. Our department store is hiring an accountant. This information isn’t public; only insiders know about it."
"If you're interested, you should apply and prepare well," Yao Feixue said.
"Really?" Ye Fangfei had been searching for so long and didn’t expect to hear this news from Yao Feixue.
"Accounting is great; it's right up your alley."
If it were another position, Ye Fangfei might not have the confidence, but when it came to accounting, she felt almost certain.
"Of course it's true. Why would I lie to you? But there are quite a few applicants."
"I heard there are two other high school graduates as well, so make sure to prepare thoroughly."
Also, I heard from my dad that you'll need to take an abacus test. You can do that, right?" Yao Feixue asked.
"I can. Thank you, Feixue. Regardless of whether this works out or not, I owe you one," Ye Fangfei said gratefully.
"No need for favors. Just help me make a thin cotton jacket like yours when you have time," Yao Feixue replied without hesitation.
"Sure, no problem," Ye Fangfei agreed eagerly.
After finishing their conversation, Yao Feixue went home for dinner.
