"Well, I have studied it specifically," Ye Fangfei said honestly.
"Who did you learn from? It seems the person who taught you must be quite skilled; I certainly can't compare to him," Accountant Wang replied.
"My teacher was a friend of my grandfather's, but he has passed away," Ye Fangfei said.
"What a pity! He must have had a high level of expertise in this area," Accountant Wang lamented.
"Since Xiao Ye is proficient in this field, that's even better," Manager Yao added.
"Old Wang, I'm leaving this person in your hands. You must teach her before she leaves," Manager Yao instructed.
"Don't worry, Old Yao. Xiao Ye has studied it specifically; I just need to guide her a little more," Accountant Wang assured him.
"Alright then, I leave her to you." After Manager Yao finished speaking, he turned and left.
Once Manager Yao was gone, Accountant Wang pointed to the desk across from him and said, "Xiao Ye, you can sit here; this desk is usually unoccupied."
"Okay," Ye Fangfei replied and began to tidy up the items on the desk.
Although the desk was usually empty, there were still quite a few things on it.
They were all Accountant Wang's accounts.
Accountant Wang and Wang also helped tidy up.
After clearing the desktop, they emptied the drawers as well.
Ye Fangfei then found a cloth and wiped down the desk inside and out twice.
Once everything was cleaned up, she pulled out a chair and sat down.
Ye Fangfei wanted to take a look at the accounts, so Accountant Wang found one for her to review.
"Xiao Ye, just take a look at this when you have time. Actually, our accounts are pretty straightforward. As long as the outgoing goods match the incoming ones, it’s fine. The only trouble is at the end of the month when we need to do an inventory check in the warehouse; we also have to reconcile the accounts then," Accountant Wang explained.
Ye Fangfei nodded. The accounts for the department store were really nothing difficult for her.
After all, she had studied accounting for four years in university and had even obtained her accountant certification.
After graduating, she worked in a company for four years and often took on some freelance work as well.
In the following days, Ye Fangfei shadowed Accountant Wang, observing how he recorded transactions and managed accounts. In truth, she was already quite familiar with these tasks and didn't need to learn them anew. However, Ye Fangfei wanted to keep a low profile, so she patiently followed Wang and learned from him.
By the time Wang was set to leave, Ye Fangfei had completely grasped the work. Since Wang was being promoted to a higher-level unit, the leaders at the department store, including Manager Yao, treated him very kindly. To bid him farewell, they reserved a banquet at a state-run hotel.
The attendees included Manager Yao, two directors, as well as Chen from the Human Resources Department and Xiao. Of course, Accountant Wang and Cashier Wang were also there, with Ye Fangfei being the last to join.
Although Wang had only taught Ye Fangfei for a few days, they had developed a mentor-student bond. Ye Fangfei even bought a fountain pen as a gift for him. Spending over ten yuan on it was quite a sum in those days, but she felt it was worth it. After all, Wang had been diligent in teaching her during those few days.
Moreover, given that Wang was moving on to the Commercial Bureau above the department store, that alone justified her gift of the pen. It wasn't about being opportunistic; they were all adults and understood the value of connections. While some might go to great lengths for relationships, Ye Fangfei certainly wouldn’t easily let go of this opportunity.
It was also during this meal that she got to know the two directors from the department store better.
