Ye Fangfei placed her belongings on the dresser in the room, and Hao Chunying washed two apples for her. Then, the two of them sat down on chairs to talk.
"Dear, tell me about your job. Did Xiao Tang help you get it?" Hao Chunying asked once she saw there were no outsiders around.
"No, I got it on my own," Ye Fangfei replied.
"What happened? I haven't heard that the Goods Building was hiring," Hao Chunying said, puzzled.
"The Goods Building isn’t publicly hiring, so no one knows about it," Ye Fangfei explained. "I found out through a neighbor in our courtyard; her father is the manager of the Goods Building."
"I wondered why I hadn’t heard anything about it. They must be preparing to hire employees' children," Hao Chunying said. "It’s common these days; when a job position opens up, they don’t announce it publicly. Only those within the organization know."
"They also recruit from within," she continued. "That neighbor is quite good to you for sharing such important news. You must thank her and maintain a good relationship with her. Don’t be stingy with little things; if you have something to give, you should."
"After all, this is a huge favor, and we should repay it somehow," Hao Chunying added.
"I know. She likes the new style of thin cotton jacket I made, so I plan to make one for her. Do you have any suitable fabric here?" Ye Fangfei asked.
"If not, could you find a piece for me at the factory?" she suggested.
"We have some at home; I just brought back a few pieces of fabric a few days ago. It was from Feng’s family in the backyard who asked me to help them get it. Since you need it now, I'll give it to you," Hao Chunying said.
Sometimes she would bring back some flawed fabric from the factory for acquaintances, of course adding a little markup for herself.
Ye Fangfei didn’t hesitate to accept and replied directly, "I’ll pick out two pieces later."
"Why pick? Just take them all. If you don’t need them, send them back to your in-laws."
"You should make an effort to show your in-laws that you care, especially since they live far away. It's not expensive to do so, and not only will your in-laws appreciate it, but Xiao Tang will be grateful too.

Ye Fangfei nodded in understanding. "I know, Mom. I’ve already bought a set of clothes for each of them before they went back."

"Have you been working these past few days? How's it going at your workplace? Is anyone bullying you?" Hao Chunying asked again.
"No, everyone at work is quite nice. My mentor is very serious and responsible," Ye Fangfei replied.
"Is this job a formal one? How’s your salary?" Hao Chunying inquired about the matter she was most concerned about.
"Yes, it's a formal position. My monthly salary is thirty-three yuan and six jiao. After a year, it will be thirty-eight yuan and five jiao," Ye Fangfei explained briefly about her job situation.
"Really? My daughter is so capable that she can land such a job!" Hao Chunying said proudly.
