At noon, Ye Zijun and the others came over, delighted to hear that Ye Fangfei had found a job as an accountant at the Goods Building.
"Really? That's a great job!" Ye Zijun exclaimed in surprise, knowing that Ye Fangfei was now an accountant at the Goods Building.
"Of course! Feifei is capable; she managed to land such a good position," Hao Chunying said proudly.
"Feifei, since you're so close with the manager's daughter at the Goods Building, can you ask her to help get my sister a position there?" Yi Xiaoli suggested, leaning closer to Ye Fangfei.
Ye Fangfei was taken aback by Yi Xiaoli's boldness. How could she have the nerve to ask for a sales clerk position at the Goods Building?
Before Ye Fangfei could respond, Hao Chunying interjected, "How can you be so shameless? You want to work as a sales clerk at the Goods Building? Do you know how hard it is to find a job these days? Even getting a temporary position at a factory is nearly impossible. You think you can just waltz in and demand a job at the Goods Building like it's your family business?"
Hao Chunying launched into a tirade.
"Mom, that's not what I meant," Yi Xiaoli stammered. "It's just that Feifei is close with the manager's daughter. I thought maybe if she could help my sister find a job, it would make things easier for our family."
"My daughter has no obligation to use her connections for your sister. You're dreaming," Hao Chunying shot back dismissively.
Ye Fangfei was surprised that in just a few days since they had moved in, the relationship between Hao Chunying and Yi Xiaoli had deteriorated to this extent. She didn't want to get involved in their family disputes.
Changing the subject, she asked, "Mom, where's Dad?"
Hao Chunying, not wanting to continue talking to her clueless daughter-in-law, felt her excitement about having another grandchild fade away. She knew her daughter was married now and that it wasn't appropriate to meddle in her relationship with her daughter-in-law.
"Your dad is working overtime. They have tasks at the factory that need to be completed quickly," she replied.
Ye Zijun noticed that Ye Fangfei had successfully diverted Hao Chunying's attention and gave her a grateful glance.
Since moving in, life had become difficult for Ye Zijun. It wasn't anything specific; it was just that Hao Chunying couldn't stand Yi Xiaoli's constant concern for her own family. When they lived separately, Ye Zijun usually didn't involve himself in household matters since he was a man.
He had no idea that Yi Xiaoli had taken everything from their home to her family. Yi Xiaoli was used to being in charge, and whenever she saw something good at home, she would think of taking it to her family. Now that they had moved in with Hao Chunying and the others, she still habitually wanted to take the good things home.
At first, Hao Chunying tolerated it. However, as Yi Xiaoli continued to take items from their home—first the brown sugar and canned goods, which mysteriously disappeared, and then even the food from the kitchen—Hao Chunying could no longer endure it. She confronted Ye Zijun and Yi Xiaoli directly, insisting that they contribute to the household expenses each month.
She made it clear that she kept track of what was in the house. While she wouldn't stop certain people from thinking about their family, they shouldn't take her things to do favors for others. With only a few people living in the house, it was obvious who she was referring to.
Yi Xiaoli's face flushed with embarrassment and anger. Although Ye Zijun wasn't particularly concerned about household matters, he understood that his mother was talking about Yi Xiaoli. He didn’t say much at the time, but once they were in their room, he had a heated argument with Yi Xiaoli.
In the following days, although Yi Xiaoli refrained from taking anything else from home, the tension lingered.
