"Alright, if I need anything, I won't hold back," Yao Feixue said with a straightforward tone.
Since she decided to befriend Ye Fangfei, Yao Feixue seemed like a different person. The two of them rode their bicycles together to the department store for work. Along the way, Yao Feixue took the time to introduce Ye Fangfei to the ins and outs of the department store. Having worked there for a while, Yao Feixue was well aware of many hidden details within the store. Ye Fangfei learned quite a bit of useful information from her, which helped her avoid offending anyone due to ignorance.
Upon arriving at the department store, they parked their bicycles in the shed and went their separate ways to start work. From that point on, Ye Fangfei and Yao Feixue became familiar with each other, making it a routine to go to work together every morning. Gradually, everyone learned about their friendship and that they were neighbors. People began to assume that Ye Fangfei had come to take the exam because of Manager Yao's influence.
As a result, Ye Fangfei firmly established her position at the department store. Half a month later, when Tang Zhi returned, he discovered that during his absence of over twenty days, his wife had found a job—a good office position at the department store.
"Wife, I'm here!" Tang Zhi called from across the street.
When he arrived, Ye Fangfei had not yet finished work, and the front door of their home was locked. Thinking that she had gone back to her family’s place, he entered their home to drop off his things before heading to the Ye family to look for her. Just then, Aunt Zhao spotted him and informed him that Ye Fangfei was at work.
Realizing this, he decided not to go to the Ye family but instead headed straight to the department store to pick her up after work.
Ye Fangfei was chatting with Wang Dan when she heard someone calling her name. Turning around, she saw Tang Zhi standing there with his bicycle. She waved excitedly and quickly told Wang Dan before jogging over to him.
"You’re here? When did you get home? How did you know I was working here?" Ye Fangfei bombarded him with questions as she approached.
Tang Zhi smiled as he watched Ye Fangfei rush over with her bicycle, her face lit up with joy as she asked him a flurry of questions.
"Slow down, slow down! No need to rush," he chuckled. "I went home first and happened to run into Aunt Zhao; that's how I found out you were working at the department store."
"Well, let's go home then. We can pick up some groceries on the way," Ye Fangfei said.
The two of them rode their bicycles side by side, making their way home. On the road, Ye Fangfei chattered about how she found her job. Tang Zhi shared his observations from the journey as well.
Halfway home, they stopped to buy some vegetables before continuing to cook and eat together. After finishing their meal, Tang Zhi took out the items he had brought and began to show them to Ye Fangfei one by one.
"This is the millet I brought. There are a total of twenty pounds here. We'll keep ten for ourselves, send five to your family, and five to your aunt's family," he explained.
"And these are red dates. You can decide how many to give to your family and your aunt, and the rest you can soak in water for yourself."
"I also bought a few pounds of Shanxi vinegar; it's really delicious," Tang Zhi continued, showing each item before setting it aside.
Once they finished looking at everything, Tang Zhi pulled out a handful of cash and handed it to Ye Fangfei. "I sold some millet and red dates this time. This is the money I made."
The small portion he kept was just for their own consumption; most of it had been sold for profit. In total, he earned thirteen yuan and five jiao, along with a few tickets. Now, he handed everything over to Ye Fangfei.
