Ye Fangfei took the money, her face beaming as she counted it. There was a total of sixty-three dollars and fifty cents, along with two fabric coupons, two meat coupons, and one sugar coupon. After finishing her count, she took out her special iron box for storing money and carefully placed everything inside.
Tang Zhicheng watched his wife’s greedy little expression with increasing fondness. He secretly resolved to earn more money in the future so that Ye Fangfei could count even more.
Once the formalities were over, Tang Zhicheng began to feel restless. Ye Fangfei hid the iron box back in the cupboard and turned to speak to him again. Unable to resist any longer, Tang Zhicheng scooped her up and laid her down on the bed.
"My dear wife, I've missed you so much. Every day outside, I think of you. Did you miss me?" he murmured as he leaned down to kiss her.
Before long, soft whispers filled the room. It was another hot night.
The next morning, Tang Zhicheng woke up early. Looking at his wife sleeping soundly in his arms, he smiled with happiness. Remembering last night made his heart race again.
After lingering in bed with his wife for a while longer, he carefully got up to make breakfast. Since Ye Fangfei had been tired the night before, he wanted to prepare something delicious for her.
However, there wasn’t much in the house besides eggs. Tang Zhicheng looked around the kitchen and then hopped on his bicycle to head out.
He arrived at the state-run restaurant and bought five meat buns, along with some soy milk and fried dough sticks. Afterward, he hurried back home to wake Ye Fangfei.
"Wife, it’s time to get up. Wake up," Tang Zhicheng called gently.
Ye Fangfei stirred under the covers a bit before finally opening her eyes. Upon seeing Tang Zhicheng beside her, she playfully stretched out her arms to wrap around his neck.
"Zhicheng," she cooed sweetly.
Tang Zhicheng couldn’t resist this charm; he leaned down and kissed her deeply.
As the two sat at the dining table having breakfast, twenty minutes had already passed.
Seeing that it was almost time to leave for work, Ye Fangfei hurriedly drank a bowl of soy milk and grabbed a bun, ready to head out. Tang Zhicheng also quickly finished a bun and stood up. "Wife, let me take you," he said. Ye Fangfei didn't refuse and allowed him to accompany her to work.
She was a bit late, and when she stepped outside, she didn't see Yao Feixue, which meant she had probably already left. Tang Zhicheng rode quickly, and Ye Fangfei arrived at the office building just in time for work. They had agreed that he would come pick her up for lunch, and after waving goodbye, she quickly entered the building.
Once she was inside, Tang Zhicheng turned his bike around to go buy groceries and meat. His wife had worked hard the night before, so he planned to make some braised pork for her at noon to help her recover.
However, Ye Fangfei didn’t get to eat the braised pork that day. With a piece of pork belly hanging from his handlebars, Tang Zhicheng leisurely rode his bicycle back home. Just as he pushed the bike into the house and placed the pork in the kitchen, the courtyard suddenly became lively.
When Tang Zhicheng went out to close the door, he noticed a crowd gathering at the entrance of the courtyard. He hadn’t planned on joining them at first, but as he listened to the increasing commotion, he realized it was unusual for a weekday; most of the residents were elderly or unwell and wouldn’t be at work. If something serious had happened, there would be no way for them to handle it.
He stepped outside to lock his own door before making his way through the crowd into the courtyard. Not wanting to intrude too much, he approached Aunt Zhao and asked, "Auntie, what’s going on? Whose family is this?"
