Tang Zhi took a two-day break before returning to work. However, he didn't have to drive for the time being; each day, he simply reported to the team and went about his business without much to do.
After Gao Xiangchun was discharged from the hospital, she came to thank Tang Zhi under the guidance of Gao Dachui.
"Xiao Tang, I really appreciate your help that day. If it weren't for you, we might not have been able to get Xiangchun to the hospital in time and she could have lost her life." Gao Dachui placed a bag of brown sugar and some canned goods on the table.
"Dachui, what are you doing? We live in the same neighborhood; it's only right that I lend a hand," Tang Zhi quickly declined.
"Take it, keep it for Xiangchun to regain her strength. She lost a lot of blood, and it's no joke," Gao Dachui insisted.
"I have enough at home; you really should keep it," Tang Zhi urged.
"If you don't take it, I won't feel right about it," Gao Dachui said sincerely. He was truly grateful to Tang Zhi.
At that time, Gao Xiangchun's condition had been critical. The doctors had said that if they had arrived even ten minutes later, she might not have made it. Both of them had been in shock, and thanks to Xiao Tang running around handling the paperwork and covering the hospitalization fees, they were able to get her the help she needed.
Gao Dachui pulled out ten yuan and handed it to Tang Zhi. "Xiao Tang, this is for the hospitalization fees you covered."
Tang Zhi accepted it without further protest.
Meanwhile, Ye Fangfei was talking with Li Xiaomei and Gao Xiangchun. "How are you feeling now? Does your head still hurt?"
Gao Xiangchun had her head wrapped in a bandage and looked pale. "Much better, thank you, sister-in-law," she replied weakly.
"That's good to hear. You look unwell; make sure you eat well to recover." Ye Fangfei noticed how thin Gao Xiangchun's face had become and felt a bit sorry for her.
"You should keep the red dates for yourself, Xiao Ye. I bought brown sugar for Xiangchun; she can use that to make tea," Li Xiaomei quickly interjected.
After spending some time together, Gao Dachui's family prepared to leave.
Tang Zhi stuffed the items they brought back into Gao Dachui's hands. "Dachui, take these back with you. It's only right that neighbors help each other; there's no need for you to bring anything."
I heard that Xiangchun is going to the countryside soon, so I packed some things for her. Life in the countryside isn't easy, and it's always good to send her with a little extra.
Thinking about my daughter heading to the countryside, and then about my troublesome second daughter, I felt a weight in my heart.
Ye Fangfei also packed a bag of red dates for Gao Xiangchun. "Take these; they’re good for nourishing your energy and blood when soaked in water."
"No, sister-in-law, this is quite expensive. I can't accept it," the seventeen-year-old girl replied softly, refusing.
"That's right, Xiao Ye, we can't take it," Li Xiaomei chimed in from the side.
"It's for Xiangchun; just take it," Ye Fangfei insisted.
Gao Dachui's impression of Tang Zhi and Ye Fangfei improved even more. As he was leaving, he said to Tang Zhi, "Xiao Tang, if you ever need anything at home, just let me know."
"As long as I can help, I will," he added.
"Alright then, having an uncle like you is great," Tang Zhi replied cheerfully.
Gao Dachui's family left with the items Tang Zhi had given them and the bag of red dates from Ye Fangfei.
Once they got home, Gao Dachui told Li Xiaomei, his eldest daughter Xiangchun, and his youngest son Songbai, "Xiao Tang and his wife are good people. Remember, if they ever need your help in the future, you should lend a hand."
Both Gao Xiangchun and Gao Songbai nodded in agreement.
Gao Dachui looked at his two children and felt relieved that they had turned out well.
