The train rattled along as Ye Fangfei and Tang Zhicheng boarded on the morning of the seventeenth day of the twelfth lunar month, right on schedule. 0

"Dear, if you're tired, lean on me and take a nap. I'll keep an eye on our things," Tang Zhicheng said, looking at Ye Fangfei with concern. 0

They had bought hard seats, which were far less comfortable than sleeping berths. Tang Zhicheng had considered purchasing a sleeper, but at this time, not everyone could get one; it required a certain status. 0

The journey from Beijing to Tang Zhicheng's hometown in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, would take two days and two nights by train. After that, they would need to transfer to a bus to Tonghe County. Tang Zhicheng's hometown was a small village under Tonghe County. 0

This journey was going to be quite arduous. If it were just Tang Zhicheng, it wouldn't be too bad; after all, he was used to running around outside every day. But Ye Fangfei was different; she had never traveled far before, and he worried that she might not adapt well. 0

What Tang Zhicheng didn't know was that Ye Fangfei's soul came from the modern world. Although she hadn't faced much hardship in her life—having gone to university and then worked for a few years—she had still experienced her share of challenges while traveling across the country. 0

Even though trains in this era were certainly not as comfortable as modern high-speed trains, it was something she could manage. So when she heard Tang Zhicheng's concerns for her, she replied nonchalantly, "It's fine; it's just a few days. I can handle it." 0

"Speaking of which, you haven't been back in several years, have you? This time you can spend some quality time with your parents." 0

"Yes, I haven't been back for three years now." 0

"Just wait and see; once we return home, the place will be lively again." 0

"I'm the only one from our village who has been out there," he continued. "Every time I go back, all the neighbors and distant relatives gather at my house. They just want me to tell them about life outside." 0

"Sometimes I have to repeat myself several times about one thing," Tang Zhicheng said with a laugh at his own expense. 0

Ye Fangfei chuckled too, imagining the helpless expression on his face back then. 0

As they chatted and laughed along the way, the two days passed quickly. 0

Upon arriving in Harbin, Tang Zhicheng pulled the bundled-up Ye Fangfei off the train. 0

Once they exited the train station, they quickly found a nearby restaurant to grab a bite to eat. Afterward, they hurried to the bus station. There were three buses daily from Harbin to Tonghe County, one in the morning, one at noon, and one in the evening. They managed to catch the midday bus. 0

The morning and evening buses were usually crowded, but the midday one typically had fewer passengers. Tang Zhicheng first helped Ye Fangfei onto the bus and made sure she was seated comfortably before stowing away their two large canvas bags under the seat. He then took the seat next to her. 0

Sitting down, Ye Fangfei stamped her feet and pulled her scarf up a bit more, wishing she could shrink her head into it. 0

"Is it too cold? Just hang in there; we'll be home soon," Tang Zhicheng said, observing her face mostly covered by the scarf, with only her eyes visible. 0

"It's freezing! I knew it would be cold in the Northeast, but I didn't expect it to be this cold," Ye Fangfei shivered as she spoke. 0

She had visited the Northeast before for tourism, but back then, due to atmospheric conditions, it was much warmer than it was now. 0

"Hey there, you’re not from around here, are you? Are you visiting relatives?" A woman sitting behind them overheard their conversation and chimed in. 0

Upon hearing Ye Fangfei's accent, she could tell she wasn't a local. The locals had long since acclimated to this climate; even when it was cold, they wouldn't bundle up as much as this girl did. 0
