In the future, whatever is in the hands of the third family will not be given to oneself.
Ye Fangfei paid no mind to Zhang Man's little schemes. She might not return even once in a few years, so whatever plans she had wouldn’t affect her at all.
"Alright, it's time to cook. You go heat up the steamed buns and the corn cakes, and steam the meat," Old Lady Tang instructed.
"And you, go stew the sauerkraut and cut up some blood sausage," she added, addressing the second daughter-in-law.
Old Lady Tang glanced at the clock and continued giving orders.
"Mom, what should I do?" Ye Fangfei asked, noticing that both of her sisters-in-law had been assigned tasks while she was left out.
"You? You've already been through enough on this journey. You should rest; I'll cook with your sisters-in-law," Old Lady Tang replied.
Then she turned to her eldest grandson. "Dabao, take your little aunt to their room to lie down for a bit."
Ye Fangfei indeed felt a bit tired, so she followed Dabao to the room reserved for Tang Zhicheng.
The Tang family home was typical of northeastern China, with a large courtyard that was at least half an acre—this was just the front yard; if you included the back yard, it would be at least an acre in total.
This was normal in the northeast where land is vast and people are sparse; courtyards tended to be unusually large.
The house had three main rooms and additional side rooms, which were built later when Tang Zhiwu was getting married.
Currently, the living arrangements were that Old Lady Tang and Old Man Tang lived in the east room of the main house.
Tang Zhi's family occupied the west room of the main house.
Tang Zhiwu's family lived in the east side room, while Tang Zhicheng’s room was in the west side room.
However, since Tang Zhicheng was often away from home, his room was usually occupied by Dabao and Erbao from Tang Zhi's family.
Now that Tang Zhicheng had returned, Dabao and Erbao had moved back to the west room to live with Tang Zhi and his wife.
"Little aunt, this is Uncle's room," Dabao said as he led Ye Fangfei to the door of the west side room.
"No, this is my brother's room," Erbao suddenly interjected before Ye Fangfei could speak.
Dabao paused for a moment, tugged at Erbao, and then explained, "No, little aunt. This room is reserved for Uncle by Grandpa and Grandma."
"It's just that since Uncle isn't home, Erbao and I are temporarily staying here."
Dabao was a few years older after all; he understood things better than his younger brother.
"But brother, didn't Mom say this room would be for you when you get married? I'm not wrong," Erbao said, tilting his little head up.
The second sister-in-law was indeed an honest child, causing Ye Fangfei to burst into laughter.
"Shut your mouth," Da Bao said, quickly covering his younger brother's mouth with his hand and pulling him away.
Ye Fangfei didn't mind that Da Bao and his brother were living in the house. Since they weren't home, it was normal for the children to stay there temporarily.
However, Wang Zhaodi's words were a bit problematic. What did she mean by saying that this house would be for Da Bao to bring his wife to live in?
Since the house belonged to Tang Zhicheng, it should be up to him to decide what to do with it. The children could stay temporarily while their parents were away, but if Wang Zhaodi thought she could claim it as her own, that was impossible.
Although she didn't care much about this particular house, it wasn't something anyone could just covet. Ye Fangfei's personality was such that if she gave something to someone, it was fine for them to have it. But if she didn't want to give it, then no one could lay claim to it.
Wang Zhaodi had just run into her boundaries this time. However, since the matter was still just talk from children and hadn't been brought directly to her attention, she chose to ignore it for now. If the day ever came when it became a real issue, she would have her own plans in place.
