Ye Fangfei was quite comfortable during her month of confinement. Tang Zhi took half a month off work to stay home and take care of her. Hao Chunying would also come by whenever she had time to lend a hand. Although Tang Zhi had to return to work in the latter half of the month, with Uncle Fang around, he wasn’t assigned long-distance trips. Most days, he stayed with the transport team, allowing him to find time to wash diapers or cook some meals at home. Even when he had to go out, it was usually just around Beijing, so he could return in a day.
Soon, it was the day of Ye Fangfei's full moon celebration. Early in the morning, Tang Zhi went to the meat processing plant to pick up the pork he had ordered in advance. Thanks to a procurement officer he knew from years back, Ye Fangfei hadn’t been short on pig trotters during her confinement.
Today, Hao Chunying and Ye Jianguo arrived early as well. They came to help out. Ye Fangfei didn’t plan on making a big deal out of her daughter’s full moon celebration—she just wanted to host some family and friends at home. The guests were limited to Aunt Hao, Uncle Fang, Uncle Ye, and Aunt Ye, along with her grandparents and friends Yao Feixue and Wang Dan. Additionally, there were Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying, as well as Ye Zijun and Yi Xiaoli.
“Mom, please watch over Xiao Yueyue while I take a shower,” Ye Fangfei said after finishing feeding her daughter. She gathered her things for a bath.
“What are you thinking? It’s freezing outside! Why do you need to take a shower now? You just finished your confinement; what if you catch a cold?” Hao Chunying nagged.
“Mom, I haven’t showered in a month! I feel so dirty,” Ye Fangfei replied impatiently. “Just keep an eye on Xiao Yueyue; I’m going now.”
After Ye Fangfei left, Hao Chunying glanced at Xiao Yueyue, who was sleeping soundly on the bed. She then went to the kitchen to help Tang Zhi prepare the meal.
The menu was something Tang Zhi and Ye Fangfei had discussed earlier that morning. They planned to make one big dish of braised pork, one steamed fish, and a small chicken stew with mushrooms. For appetizers, they prepared marinated tofu skin, sliced Chinese sausage, and fried peanuts. The stir-fried dishes included shredded potatoes with meat, Mu Shu pork, stir-fried vegetable slices with tofu, and sauerkraut stewed with vermicelli.
A full ten dishes were prepared, symbolizing perfection and completeness. However, today, the Tangzhi Meat Processing Plant not only delivered ten pounds of meat but also brought along a large pig's head. This added even more variety to the dining table.
Tangzhi was outside preparing the pig's head, struggling with the stubborn bristles that were difficult to remove. He needed to melt some asphalt and pour it over the pig's head. Once the asphalt cooled down, he could peel it off along with the bristles.
"Chunying, how's my meat cutting?" yelled Ye Jianguo from the kitchen. "I've soaked the mushrooms too; you should start stewing the chicken first."
"I'm on it," Hao Chunying replied as she got up and headed to the kitchen. "No, these meat pieces are too big; you need to cut them smaller. And the mushrooms need to be rinsed again; they must be cleaned properly."
The three of them busily prepared the pig's head for marinating while putting the chicken and mushrooms into a pot to stew. At that moment, Aunt Hao came over, "Zhi, Chunying, are you both hard at work?"
Aunt Hao and Hao Chunying were sisters and had a close relationship, often working together harmoniously.
