Ye Fangfei was truly astonished by the situation with the Yi family; she never expected there could be someone as foolish as Yi Xiaoli in the world. She couldn't understand how Yi Xiaoli thought, always listening to her mother. Didn't she have any opinions of her own at her age?
"Well, they’ve divorced. Ye Ting gave her brother a little money, and they just let her take away the dowry she brought when she got married," said Hao Chunying.
"Does Tingting know?" Ye Fangfei was not worried about anything else; her only concern was for Ye Ting.
"Tingting doesn’t know they’ve divorced yet. He’s a sensible child; he asked a couple of questions at first, but then he stopped asking," Hao Chunying sighed.
"What about my brother?" Ye Fangfei asked again.
It was understandable for Ye Fangfei to worry; as the saying goes, a day as husband and wife means a hundred days of affection. No matter how bad Yi Xiaoli was, she had been married to Ye Zijun for several years. How could they possibly have no feelings for each other? Reaching this point was something neither of them wanted.
"Your brother is still holding up. Although he’s sad, he should be somewhat prepared for it," Hao Chunying replied.
"Your brother had no choice. Yi Xiaoli usually seemed fine, but she became muddled when it came to her family matters. If it were just small things, it would be one thing, but she had to support her younger brother’s education and take care of her mother when she fell ill. Most importantly, she expected your brother to help her younger brother marry and have children, which meant he had to take care of all the major and minor issues in her family."
"Your brother is just an ordinary person; his own family is struggling enough as it is. How could he possibly manage all that?" Hao Chunying felt sorry for her son. Encountering such a father-in-law left him with no choice but to divorce.
Ye Fangfei also felt a sense of regret for her brother and Yi Xiaoli. If it weren't for Yi Xiaoli's family being so demanding, Ye Zijun and Yi Xiaoli wouldn’t have ended up like this.
"It’s good if my brother can come to terms with it; I just hope Tingting can talk to him slowly," Ye Fangfei said.
"I know. I brought Tingting out today just to help him relax and to share this news with you," Hao Chunying nodded.
"Here, I have some jerky that Zicheng brought from Inner Mongolia. It’s too tough to eat like this; I’m afraid Ye Ting won’t be able to bite into it."
"I’ll go steam it on the stove so he can have it as a snack." Ye Fangfei took out a piece of jerky from the cupboard.
"This jerky is delicious! Your dad says it's perfect for drinking," Hao Chunying added, having tasted it herself.
Tang Zicheng brought quite a bit back, and Ye Fangfei also took some for her parents.
"Auntie! Auntie! The little sister is awake!" At that moment, a voice called from Ye Ting's room.
"Coming!" Ye Fangfei responded and turned back to Hao Chunying, saying, "Mom, I’ll go check on Xiao Yue Liang; you keep an eye on the pot."
"Go on, I'll manage here myself," Hao Chunying waved her hand dismissively.
"Mom, keep an eye on things. Once the fried dough twists are done, make sure to fry some fritters. I've already prepared them; they're on the cutting board," Ye Fangfei said hurriedly as she rushed into the house.
"I know that, you don't need to remind me," Hao Chunying replied with a hint of annoyance.
Inside, Ye Ting was sitting quietly on the kang, watching over little Yueyue.
When he saw Ye Fangfei enter, his eyes lit up. He climbed up and walked to the edge of the kang. "Auntie, the baby is awake."
Ye Fangfei glanced at her daughter, who was indeed awake but playing quietly by herself. She decided not to intervene.
Instead, she picked up Ye Ting. "Tingting, you're being so good! Do you like your little sister?"
Ye Ting nodded obediently. "I like her, Auntie. I really like my sister."
After saying this, Ye Ting looked at Ye Fangfei, hesitating as if he had something more to say.
"Do you have something you want to tell your aunt?" Ye Fangfei noticed his hesitation and gently asked.
