"Auntie, did my parents get divorced?" Ye Ting asked softly, leaning against Ye Fangfei.
Ye Fangfei's heart sank; she realized that Ye Ting must have heard something from somewhere.
"Ting Ting, why do you ask that? Who told you anything?" Ye Fangfei looked at Ye Ting with a serious expression.
Seeing her stern face made Ye Ting a bit scared, and he shrank back, not daring to speak.
Noticing that she had frightened him, Ye Fangfei quickly softened her tone. "Don't be afraid, Ting Ting. Tell Auntie, who said what?"
Ye Ting cautiously glanced at Ye Fangfei's face. She smiled at him encouragingly, urging him to speak freely.
Lowering his head, he whispered, "It was my mom. She came to school to find me. She said Dad doesn't want her anymore and told me to be good and not forget her."
"Auntie, I miss Mom," Ye Ting said as tears began to flow.
Ye Fangfei sighed. The most innocent victims of adult divorces are the children. But at this moment, all she could do was hold Ye Ting and comfort him.
"Ting Ting, no matter what happens between your parents, you will always be their son."
"Ting Ting, don’t worry about what others say. You still have your dad, your grandparents, and Auntie," Ye Fangfei reassured him as she held him close.
"Auntie!" Ye Ting cried out in her embrace.
"Okay, okay, don’t cry anymore. Auntie's here," Ye Fangfei gently comforted him.
Outside the window, Hao Chunying wiped away her tears, mumbling to herself that it was better to cry it out. She returned to the kitchen to continue frying the fritters.
Ye Fangfei soothed Ye Ting for quite a while until Xiao Yue Liang began to fuss. Only then did Ye Ting pull away from her embrace.
"Auntie, come see my sister! I’m all out of tears." The little boy still felt a bit shy.
Ye Fangfei released Ye Ting and picked up Xiao Yue Liang from the bed. "Oh dear, did you wet yourself? You little rascal, can’t handle even a bit of discomfort?"
"Ah!" Xiao Yue Liang was over two months old now and occasionally made sounds.
"Yes, you know you're a little rascal? How is Mommy's little moon so well-behaved?" As she changed Xiao Yue Liang's diaper, Ye Fangfei spoke softly.
Xiao Yue Liang seemed to understand that Mommy was talking to her and perhaps felt more comfortable after being changed.
In the background, a soft sound echoed in response to Ye Fangfei. She changed the little moon's diaper and fed her.
Then she reminded Ye Ting, "Tingting, stay with your sister while Auntie goes to cook."
"Okay, Auntie. I will take good care of my sister," Ye Ting replied, settling down next to the little moon and watching her intently.
Ye Fangfei smiled at Ye Ting's serious expression and took out two large rabbit-shaped candies from the cabinet.
"Tingting, come over and have some candy," she called, waving him over.
"Thank you, Auntie," Ye Ting said politely as he reached out to take the candy.
"You're welcome, Tingting. Just eat the candy yourself; don’t give any to your sister. She’s still too young for it," Ye Fangfei advised.
"I understand, Auntie." Ye Ting had initially thought about giving his sister a piece, but since Auntie said she couldn't eat it, he decided to enjoy it himself.
