This also provided an opportunity for Zhou Xiaoying. She deposited all the money in her own name and contemplated how to report Ma Lianfa for committing a crime while ensuring the safety of herself and her children. 0

Zhou Xiaoying thought for a whole day but couldn't come up with a solution, so she took leave and returned to her parents' home. Her family lived in the outskirts of Beijing, just a neighboring village to Ma Lianfa's. 0

As the eldest daughter in her family, she had three younger brothers. The eldest and second brothers were already married with children, while the youngest had recently become engaged. Her sisters-in-law welcomed her warmly, especially since she had settled down in the city. 0

"Big sister, what brings you back today? Where are my nieces? Why didn't you bring them along?" the eldest sister-in-law greeted her with a smile. 0

"Yes, big sister, I saved some peanuts for my nieces! The last time they came, they said my fried peanuts were delicious," the second sister-in-law chimed in, eager to join the conversation. 0

It was no surprise that they praised Zhou Xiaoying; after all, she worked in the city. Although her monthly salary wasn't substantial, it was still better than what most of them earned. Zhou Xiaoying had indeed helped her family quite a bit over the years. Not to mention, items like enamel basins and teacups were never lacking in their home. Such things were considered valuable in the countryside and could hardly be bought even with money. 0

Sometimes, when Zhou Xiaoying brought these items back home and they weren't immediately needed, her family would trade them with others in the village. 0

Today, however, Zhou Xiaoying had serious matters to discuss with her parents and wasn't in the mood for lighthearted banter. She nodded at them and went inside to find her mother. 0

As she entered, she saw her parents and three younger brothers all gathered together. It was mid-winter, and with no work to be done in the fields, everyone was busy with household chores at home. Zhou Xiaoying's father was busy twisting hemp rope with his three sons. 0

"Dad, Mom," Zhou Xiaoying said as she entered, her eyes reddening upon seeing them. 0

"What brings you back? Is something wrong?" Her mother immediately noticed her daughter's red eyes and asked anxiously. 0

"Sister, what happened? Did Ma Lianfa bully you?" the eldest brother asked, putting down his work. 0

"Yes, Sister, what Brother said is right. If you’ve been wronged, just tell us," the second brother chimed in. 0

Although the third brother didn’t speak, his worried expression showed he agreed with his older brothers. 0

Zhou Xiaoying managed to hold back her tears at first, but seeing her brothers so concerned about her made her emotions overflow. Tears streamed down her face. 0

"Dear, what’s going on? You need to tell me!" their mother exclaimed, noticing how heartbroken her daughter looked. 0

"Yes, Sister, just tell us if something's wrong. We’re here for you," the eldest brother insisted. "Why are you crying? Did Ma Lianfa bully you? I’ll go find him." 0

"Let’s go, I’ll come with you," the second brother said. 0

Seeing her three brothers ready to confront Ma Lianfa made Zhou Xiaoying cry even harder. 0

Just as they were about to rush out the door, their mother quickly stopped them. "Come back! What chaos are you adding to this?" 0

Then she turned to Zhou Xiaoying and urged, "Stop crying and tell us what happened!" 0

Zhou Xiaoying was momentarily taken aback by her mother’s words and remembered why she had returned home. She managed to say, "Mom, there are people outside." And with that, tears began to flow again. 0

"What? There are people outside?" 0
