However, out of consideration for Tang Zhicheng's feelings, Ye Fangfei did not voice her thoughts.
What was the point of trying to salvage things now that the deed was done? Did she think a small piece of clothing could erase the past neglect? It was impossible.
Ye Fangfei had made up her mind to treat them as ordinary relatives from now on. Even with Tang Zhicheng in the picture, she would not sever ties; they could simply maintain a distant relationship as regular relatives.
As for any matters concerning the Tang family’s children, she would no longer involve herself; it was up to Tang Zhicheng to handle those.
Tang Zhicheng was also clear-headed. He knew that his parents had acted wrongly regarding their feelings, and he had no intention of defending them. He loved his own daughter, and whether others liked her or not was not his concern.
His parents had raised him, and he felt he had no grounds to complain; he would fulfill his filial duties as expected. As for Ye Fangfei, she had no responsibility or obligation to cater to her in-laws in any particular way.
So, he wouldn’t say anything about that to his wife. They lived far apart anyway; as long as they showed the necessary respect, that would suffice.
After Tang Zhicheng left, Ye Fangfei grabbed a piece of meat and soaked some mushrooms. She then returned to care for Little Moonlight, feeding her, changing her diaper, and dressing her in a warm cotton outfit.
"Little Moonlight, play by yourself for a bit while Mommy tidies up the house," she said. "Oh, look at our Little Moonlight being so good! Are you sucking your fingers?"
"Little Moonlight, look over here!"
As Ye Fangfei wiped down the furniture with a cloth, she chatted with her daughter on the kang (a traditional heated bed). Ever since becoming a mother, she had grown accustomed to speaking to her child this way.
Though Little Moonlight was still too young to respond, Ye Fangfei found joy in talking to her. After tidying up the house, she went to knead some dough. Since there was plenty of white flour left from yesterday, she decided to use more of it and added about a quarter of cornmeal.
After kneading the dough, she set it aside to rise and then brought in the meat to chop it up.
It was too cold outside, and fearing that Little Moon might catch a cold, Ye Fangfei brought the cutting board inside to chop.
After finishing with the meat, she began chopping cabbage and mushrooms. Once all the vegetables were prepared, she started mixing the filling for the dumplings. During this time, Little Moon began to cry, so Ye Fangfei fed her, changed her diaper, and soothed her for a while.
It wasn't until Hao Chunying arrived with Ye Ting that Ye Fangfei had only managed to wrap half of the dumplings.
"Mom, why did you come so early?" Ye Fangfei asked as she opened the door for Hao Chunying.
"I came to help you wrap dumplings. Otherwise, with so many of us, when would you finish?" Hao Chunying replied.
"I don't have much to do; I can take my time," Ye Fangfei said as she led Ye Ting forward.
Once inside, Ye Fangfei first took off Ye Ting's thick cotton coat.
"Tingting, are you cold? You go sit on the kang first; Auntie will get you something to eat."
After saying this, she placed Ye Ting on the kang and took off his shoes. Then she went to the cabinet to get some cookies for him to eat.
