"Daddy." Ye Ting's voice trembled as he called out to Ye Zijun.
Seeing his son's pitiful expression, Ye Zijun felt his heart shatter. "Ting Ting, don't cry. Daddy will carry you inside, okay? Let's continue eating dumplings." He picked up the child and headed toward the house.
"Ting Ting, Ting Ting, let your daddy help your mommy. Daddy loves you the most; if you ask him, he will definitely listen," someone urged.
"Ting Ting, Ting Ting." Yi Xiaoli saw her son and began to cry out.
"Daddy, Mommy." Ye Ting looked at Yi Xiaoli, who seemed almost frantic, and felt a twinge of fear.
Noticing his son's apprehension, Ye Zijun quickly embraced him and reassured him, "It's okay, son. Don't be afraid; Daddy is here."
Hao Chunying saw her grandson go inside and stepped forward to pull Yi Xiaoli out. "You need to leave my house immediately."
Yi Xiaoli stumbled a few steps as she was dragged, struggling as she protested, "No! Mom, please help me! I don't want to marry an old man."
"I'm not your mother! Don't call me that. We can't help you; just go!" Hao Chunying continued to pull her outside.
"I won't go! If you don't help me, I refuse to leave!" Yi Xiaoli declared defiantly, sitting down on the ground and throwing a tantrum.
Hao Chunying found herself at a loss for how to deal with her at that moment.
Just then, Ye Fangfei and Tang Zhicheng approached. They had remained silent earlier because this was ultimately a matter between Ye Zijun and Yi Xiaoli. What if Ye Zijun still had feelings for Yi Xiaoli? Their involvement could complicate things.
Now it was different; Ye Zijun had taken the child inside and made it clear he wouldn't deal with Yi Xiaoli anymore. Since she was causing a scene in their home, they could now act without hesitation.
"Get up and leave quickly; I don't want to resort to force," Tang Zhicheng said firmly.
"I won't! Brother-in-law, please help me!" Yi Xiaoli cried, shaking her head.
"Right here! Mom, look! Isn't that my sister?" A male voice called from outside the door.
"Where? Let me see." Yi Xiaoli's mother peeked into the courtyard.
As soon as she looked in, she realized they hadn't come to the wrong place; standing in the yard were none other than Ye Zijun's mother and his sister. And sitting on the ground was her daughter, Yi Xiaoli.
Seeing Yi Xiaoli there, her mother rushed in to grab her. "You little brat! How did you end up here? Get up and come back with me!"
"Well, sister, why did you run out when the guy came to our house today? Mom had to talk him up for ages," Yi Xiaofeng complained.
Yi Xiaoli dared to play tricks with Hao Chunying, but she couldn't do the same with her mother. The moment her mother tugged at her, she jumped up. She didn't dare to be defiant; instead, she looked at her mother with pleading eyes. "Mom, I don't want to marry an old man. Just wait a little longer; I promise I can get Zijing to give Xiaofeng money for a job."
Her mother didn't respond, only casting a glance at Hao Chunying. It would be best if Ye Zijing was willing to provide the money. She wasn't so heartless; as long as her son could gather enough money for a job, she would still be willing to support her daughter.
Seeing that her mother was silent, Yi Xiaoli sensed an opportunity and quickly pleaded with Hao Chunying, "Mom, please help my family. Just two hundred yuan, and my brother can have a job. Then my mom won't stop me from remarrying Zijing."
Hao Chunying was so exasperated that she almost laughed. "Oh please, when did my son say he wanted to remarry you? With two hundred yuan, I could find him a new wife!"
"Get out of here! If you keep this up, don’t blame me for chasing you away with a broom."
Seeing that Hao Chunying had refused, Yi Xiaoli's mother turned pale and pulled on Yi Xiaoli's arm. "Come on, can't you see they don't want to help?"
No matter how reluctant Yi Xiaoli was, she was dragged away by her mother.
