"Dear, we have guests," Tang Zhi called out from the door.
Ye Fangfei was inside, soothing little Yue Liang. She heard the knock but thought it was just a neighbor stopping by for something. She never expected someone would come to visit during the New Year festivities. After all, who visits others during such a time?
But since they were already here, what could she say? Tang Zhi was right; guests were guests. She quickly got out of bed to help welcome them.
"Brother Liu, Cai, please have a seat. Enjoy some sunflower seeds," Tang Zhi said as he brought over a basket filled with sugar cubes and seeds and placed it in front of the two men.
At that moment, Ye Fangfei came out holding the baby and asked the two men sitting in the living room, "Zhi, who are these?"
Seeing his wife had joined them, Tang Zhi immediately introduced her. "This is Cai, my buddy. He helped us buy the pig offal and other things."
"And this is Brother Liu, Cai's distant cousin," he added, prompting both men to greet her.
"Hello, Sister-in-law," they said in unison.
"This must be our little niece?" Brother Liu remarked as he noticed Ye Fangfei holding the baby. "We came in such a hurry that we didn't bring any gifts for her. Here, this is some lucky money for your child."
As they looked at Ye Fangfei with the baby in her arms, both men felt it was inappropriate to show up empty-handed during the New Year celebrations. So Cai pulled out some cash to give as lucky money.
Ye Fangfei and Tang Zhi quickly declined. "Brother Liu, Cai, what are you doing? Please take it back! She’s just a little child; she won’t know how to spend money."
"Come on, Tang. This is for our little niece; it's not for you," Cai insisted smoothly, showcasing his skills as a procurement officer.
At this point, it would be inappropriate for Tang Zhi to refuse any longer. "Then I’ll accept it on behalf of my daughter and thank you both for your kindness."
Seeing that Tang Zhi accepted graciously eased their minds.
Ye Fangfei sensed that their visit must have some significance since they came all this way during the holidays. She handed the baby over to Tang Zhi and said, "Zhi, hold onto little Yue Liang while I prepare some tea."
"Not this time, Sister-in-law. We're here to discuss something with you." He reached out to stop Ye Fangfei.
"What is it? Speak up," Tang Zhi said, realizing they must have something important to discuss, otherwise who would come visiting during the New Year?
"Cough, Little Tang," he glanced at Liu Ge before continuing, "How are the discussions about the house going?"
Tang Zhi understood they were there regarding the house, but he couldn't grasp why they were so anxious to talk about it during the festive season.
"We're still considering it. You know how it is; buying a house is a big deal. It’s not something you can decide on in a hurry."
A house costs thousands; who wouldn't take a few days to think it over?
"But speaking of which, is there someone else interested in buying? If someone wants it, Liu Ge, you should sell it without worrying about me."
"You've seen my situation; we’re not lacking a place to stay for now," Tang Zhi said with a furrowed brow.
"That's not it. It's not that someone else wants to buy," Cai interjected.
Before Cai could explain further, Liu Ge took over the conversation. "Little Tang, I see you're a straightforward person, so I won’t beat around the bush. You've seen my house; it's genuine. Plus, I just renovated it two years ago."
