"Xiao Tang, sister-in-law, just give us a straightforward answer. Do you want this house or not?" Liu Ge asked.
Tang Zhicheng looked at Ye Fangfei, seeking her opinion.
Ye Fangfei nodded at Liu Ge. "We want the house. In a bit, I'll have Zhicheng go with you to get the money and handle the paperwork. Liu Ge, are you really giving us the furniture?"
"Alright, sister-in-law, you're straightforward. I keep my word; we can't take the furniture with us, so it's yours." Hearing Ye Fangfei's decision to buy, Liu Ge felt a weight lift off his shoulders.
If he couldn't sell this house, it would be a real burden. His whole family was waiting for him at the port. He couldn't just stay behind because of this house, could he? So he had set a deadline for himself: if he couldn't sell it today, he would just leave it behind.
Now that the house was sold, he felt relieved.
To be honest, he was grateful to Tang Zhicheng and Ye Fangfei. They didn't try to take advantage of him by haggling over the price; that showed they were genuine people. Although he initially said he would sell it for five thousand and ended up selling it for four thousand five hundred, that five thousand was his own decision to lower the price, so it didn't count.
Xiao Tang and his wife were truly generous. If it had been someone else who knew he was in a hurry to leave, they would have surely tried to push the price down even more.
The more Liu Ge thought about it, the more he felt that Tang Zhicheng and Ye Fangfei were sincere. In a moment of enthusiasm, he said, "I'm not selling the sewing machine and my bicycle either; I'll give them to you as well."
Tang Zhicheng and Ye Fangfei exchanged glances, surprised that there was such good fortune.
The sewing machine and bicycle were significant items; although old, they could still be worth some money.
"This is too much; we can't accept that," Tang Zhicheng said. "Liu Ge, why don't you just sell them?"
"Why are you being so polite with me? I should be thanking you!" Liu Ge replied. "I've already bought my train ticket for this afternoon. If you hadn't decided to buy this yard today, I wouldn't know what to do! I can't take these things with me, and selling them wouldn't bring in much money anyway. So I might as well give them all to you." Liu Ge truly didn't care about those items.
His family had always been in business; while they weren't wealthy, they weren't lacking in money either. This yard wasn't even their ancestral home.
Their old residence was a royal courtyard from the Qing Dynasty. After the liberation, his grandfather bought it and moved in. However, his grandfather had long since gone to the beautiful country.
Now, this courtyard was also purchased by the family. After he got married, he found the house too chaotic and decided to move here. Later, when his grandfather wanted to take the family abroad, he couldn't leave immediately due to work commitments. His grandfather then gave him this house along with the money they were entitled to in advance.
At first, he didn't want to go abroad, but the situation outside was becoming increasingly dire. Moreover, several of his former classmates who had studied abroad with him had already been sent down for re-education. He had heard whispers that he might be the next unfortunate one.
Upon hearing the rumors, he quickly contacted his grandfather, who had already settled in the beautiful country. He then packed up and sent his wife and children to Guangcheng. Now everything was ready; he just needed to sell the house and take his family to reunite with his grandfather in the beautiful country.
So, it can be said that Brother Liu truly wasn't short on money. Without a doubt, even if it was just an old sewing machine and a bicycle, if Tang Zhicheng and the others didn't agree to buy this house, he was prepared to let it go and move on.
