Tang Zhicheng first took Ye Fangfei home, and then he went to withdraw money and handle the property transfer. Ye Fangfei felt a wave of joy at the thought that she would soon own a courtyard house.
After putting her daughter to sleep, she busied herself preparing lunch. She started by stewing fish and then moved on to the side dishes. Feeling particularly happy today, she decided to take out some intestines to make a crispy stir-fried dish. She also planned to prepare a small portion of pork with vermicelli, which was a dish from Tang Zhicheng's hometown.
With a smile on her face, Ye Fangfei cooked, occasionally breaking into silly grins as she thought about soon owning her second home. When Tang Zhicheng returned around eleven o'clock, he held the new property deed in his hand.
"Darling, look! The house is yours now. Aren't you happy?" Tang Zhicheng said as he handed her the deed.
Ye Fangfei wiped her hands on her apron before taking the deed from him. When she opened it and saw her name written on it, her eyes lit up with joy. "Zhicheng, what's going on? Why is my name on it?"
"Oh, I thought you’d like it! If you love the house, when I have more money in the future, I’ll buy you another one with your name on it. It's all yours," Tang Zhicheng said gently, looking at her.
"Zhicheng, you're so wonderful," Ye Fangfei replied with a sweet smile.
This was perhaps what love meant for Tang Zhicheng—there were no extravagant feasts or sweet nothings exchanged, but it gave Ye Fangfei an extraordinary sense of security.
She carefully put the property deed away in the house and returned to finish cooking. There was a tradition in their area that lunch on the thirtieth day of the lunar month must be eaten before noon. No one really knew why; it was just something passed down from the older generation.
Once all the dishes were served and little Yueyue was placed in her stroller between them, it felt like she was dining at the table with them.
"Today we celebrate! Our family has gained another property. Let's have a drink!" Ye Fangfei said as she pulled out the leftover half bottle of wine from last time.
Seeing his wife eager to drink made Tang Zhicheng realize how genuinely happy she was. Not wanting to dampen her spirits, he smiled and said, "Alright, I'll drink with you."
The two of them clinked glasses and enjoyed their meal together, gradually becoming a bit tipsy by the end of it.
"No, I can't drink anymore; I'm feeling a bit dizzy," Ye Fangfei slurred, her words slightly muddled.
"Then let's not drink. You should eat something and then rest, my dear. I'll take care of the dishes," Tang Zhicheng replied, though he too felt a little tipsy, he was still much steadier than Ye Fangfei.
"I'm not eating anymore; I just want to lie down for a bit. My head is spinning," Ye Fangfei said, pressing her hands against her forehead.
She was simply too happy and had let herself get carried away. For someone who never drank, managing to down two shots of liquor was bound to have its consequences.
Tang Zhicheng helped Ye Fangfei onto the bed, took off her shoes, and covered her with a blanket.
"I'll get you a glass of honey water to help with the hangover. Just lie down for now."
"What about Xiao Yueyue?" she asked, even in her drunken state, she was still concerned about their child.
"I know; don't worry," Tang Zhicheng reassured her. He got off the bed and poured her a glass of honey water, helping her drink it.
Then he lifted their little girl onto the bed, laying her down beside Ye Fangfei so they could rest together.
