"Since you know, why bring up not wanting to raise my grandson?" Hao Chunying confronted Luo Yawen directly.
Hao Chunying was genuinely angry. If it weren't for Luo Yawen's niece saying she didn't want Ye Ting, her son wouldn't be worried about facing difficulties in the future and would have decided against having children within ten years.
Initially, Hao Chunying didn't want to escalate the situation, especially since she and Luo Yawen worked at the same factory and had a decent relationship. She thought they could just let things be, considering there was no engagement or marriage involved. But now that Luo Yawen was still dissatisfied, Hao Chunying felt justified in being confrontational.
"What’s your problem, Hao Chunying? My niece is a young woman marrying your son, a divorced man. Is it wrong for her not to want children?" Luo Yawen argued. "Once she moves in, how can she take care of a child when she has no energy left after dealing with a stepson?"
"How does she have no energy? She doesn’t even have a job! Besides, my grandson will be starting elementary school soon; all she has to do is pick him up and make some meals. What's so difficult about that?" Hao Chunying was nearly beside herself with anger.
"How does my niece not have a job? After getting married, you could just let her take over my niece's position!" Luo Yawen replied matter-of-factly. "If my niece had a job, wouldn’t it be fine for your family to handle picking up your grandson?"
"Ah? So you’re concerned about my job? I can’t believe I didn’t notice how shameless you all are!" Hao Chunying was taken aback by Luo Yawen's unreasonable attitude. Had she known earlier, she wouldn’t have allowed her son to date her niece in the first place. After all, the family environment greatly influences people.
The saying "buying pigs means looking at the pen" might be crude, but it certainly held some truth.
"How are we shameless? You only have one son; if you don’t give your daughter-in-law your job, who else would you give it to?" Luo Yawen felt completely justified.
Hao Chunying was furious that they were already thinking about her job before even entering the house. She shot back, "I can give my job to whoever I want! Who says I must give it to my daughter-in-law?"
"And your niece is causing trouble; my son isn’t interested! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known you were eyeing my job."
"Pah! Do you think your son is some kind of prize? If it weren’t for the chance to take over your job, who would want to marry a divorced man with a child?" Now that the gloves were off, Luo Yawen didn’t hold back.
"What’s wrong with being divorced? Wasn’t it you who pushed for this in the first place?" Hao Chunying fumed; after all, it was Luo Yawen who had initially brought up this matter.
Now she was belittling her son with such remarks.
Their argument had drawn the attention of others nearby. Some acquaintances approached them: "Hey, Lao Luo, Lao Hao, what are you two arguing about? Why hasn’t this been resolved yet?"
"It’s nothing, nothing at all. Anyway, I’m going back to work," Luo Yawen said dismissively. She didn’t want to discuss this matter further in front of others since her niece being rejected was quite embarrassing.
Luo Yawen shot a glance at Hao Chunying, signaling her to keep quiet. Hao Chunying glared back at her in annoyance. However, she chose to cooperate; after all, she didn’t want to broadcast her family matters for everyone to know.
“It’s fine, I’ll have a word with Old Luo. You go ahead and keep busy, Old Li. I’ll be on my way too.” Hao Chunying stepped out during a break from work, as she and Luo Yawen were not in the same workshop.
Seeing that Hao Chunying was leaving, Old Li scoffed, “What’s this all about? As if no one knows your little secrets! Isn’t it just that your son wants to marry her niece? What’s there to hide?”
